Up for sale, a 1997 Fender Jaguar '66 vintage reissue Kurt Cobain model in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. Easily the rarest iteration of the Kurt Cobain Jaguar platform, this guitar was part of an exceedingly small run made for Fender Japan in collaboration with Ikebe. Officially model HJG-66KC IV, this Jaguar features USA-made Dimarzio PAF and Super Distortion humbuckers, a Tune-o-matic bridge, bound rosewood fingerboard, and a bold three-tone Sunburst gloss finish.
The Ikebe model had three sub-models the IV, V and VI. The IV model seen here has the Jaguar's traditional control layout governing the Dimarzio humbucker pair. The DP103 PAF in the neck position has a traditional Gibson-style tonal range with excellent dynamics and articulation, handling gain well for a harmonic-rich, powerful sound. The DP100 Super Distortion in the bridge position is Dimarzio's iconic high powered humbucker, designed to kick your amp into overdrive and perfectly tailored to Nirvana's ripping drive. This Jaguar weighs 8lbs 13oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 11-49 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.
The maple neck has a modestly slender C-shaped profile carve, yet with very full shoulders in every register and a bit more overall heft as you travel up the fretboard, measuring .825" deep at the 1st fret and .940" at the 12th. The rosewood fretboard features original perfect slender fretwire and pearl dot inlay. The scale length is 24", and the carved bone nut measures 1.650" in width. The headstock features Kluson-style Gotoh tuners that turn smoothly and hold pitch well. The "Crafted in Japan" script text and O-prefix serial number are present above the four-bolt neck plate, and the neck heel and pocket are stamped with the Jaguar's model details.
All of the electronics function as intended, with the traditional Jaguar control array governing the pair of USA-made Dimarzio humbuckers. The hardware includes a nickel Tune-o-matic bridge that ensures optimal intonation and stability, working in concert with the vibrato unit for subtle warbles and deeper dives. The chrome plating on the control plates is nice and bright with very light surface pitting, and the alder body features a unique Sunburst gloss finish with a very bold, saturated appearance highlighted by a deep red tortoise pickguard. Cosmetic wear is limited to one small finish chip central to the back and just a few additional tiny dings and finish scratches on the body as a whole. The deeply ambered gloss finish on the neck profile is flawless.
The original Fender Japan exclusive black tolex hardshell case is included. This case has a fitted black plush interior, functional latches, and a raised Fender logo on the exterior.
