Up for sale, a 1997 Fender Jag-Stang left-handed model JSG-65L in near-mint, 100% original condition and in perfect working order finished in Sonic Blue. Formally introduced in Fender Japan's lineup in the 1996 catalog, this early example of the Jag-Stang is one of the very first with the "Crafted in Japan" designation.
Famously known for being designed by Kurt Cobain of Nirvana when he took two polaroids of a Mustang and Jaguar and cut them together, the Jag-Stang is in-step with the features of both of these classic short scale Fender models, while also satisfying the higher gain pickup needs of Nirvana's chief architect. The guitar weighs 7lbs 11oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 11-49 strings, slinky action, and accurate intonation.
The maple neck has a modestly chunky C-shaped profile carve with nicely rounded shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, modeled after one of Cobain's favorite '60s Mustangs. The profile measures .855” deep at the 1st fret and .940” at the 12th. The rosewood fretboard features a vintage-spec 7 1/4" radius and flawless slender fretwire, playing cleanly up the 24” scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 1 9/16" in width. On the headstock, the original Kluson-style tuners turn smoothly and hold pitch as they should. The Kurt Cobain decal is intact on the back of the headstock, and the "Crafted in Japan" text and V-prefix serial are present above the four-bolt neck plate.
The electronics work as they should, with the original Dragster humbucker and ST-Vintage single coil pickup wired to the stock harness, governed by on/off/on pickup selector switches and a pair of Master Volume and Tone knobs. The chrome hardware has a faint dusting of surface patina, including the control plate and the vibrato unit; which has a very smooth response, working in conjunction with the barrel saddles. Plastics include the pair of knobs and the yellowed white pearloid pickguard.
Exceedingly well-kept, cosmetic wear on the gloss Sonic Blue finish limited to just a couple marks along the lower bout perimeter. The smooth ambered gloss on the neck profile is immaculate.
A gigbag is included.
