Up for sale, a 1996 Mosrite Blue Rite Custom in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case and hangtags. A fascinating hybridization of two of the most iconic surf guitars of all time, Mosrite’s The Ventures Model and Yamaha’s "Flying Samurai" Blue Jeans Custom, this extremely rare Kurokumo-made guitar pairs the pickups, electronics, hardware, and headstock of the former with the iconic body shape of the latter. And while precious little information is available regarding this particular iteration, it was highly likely produced in a collaboration between Kid’s Guitar founder/master luthier Hiroshi Kido and Mosrite enthusiast Mr. Fukushima, who commissioned Kido to produce an exceedingly limited run of less than 50 instruments in commemoration of his premier Mosrite specialty shop, Golden Guitar.

Located in Shinjuku, Tokyo, Fukushima’s Golden Guitar rose to flagship status with an entire first floor dedicated to the sole display of vintage and American Mosrites. Japan’s long-standing love affair with surf rock is the very reason the electric guitar first became popular in the Land of the Rising Sun, and this Blue Rite Custom is in many ways as Japanese as an electric guitar can get. The pair of Mosrite single coil pickups are wound plenty hot, metering at ~8k ohms and yielding punch, percussive cut, and sparkling trebles, with a terrific overarching sweetness. Weighing 8lbs 8oz, this Blue Rite Custom has been professionally set up here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.
