Up for sale, a 1996 Guild Manhattan X-170 archtop electric guitar in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. First introduced in 1985 as a thinline iteration of Guild's X-175 archtop, the Manhattan X-170 was produced in particularly small quantities, as the model ceased production in 2003. Crafted in Guild's Westerly, RI factory, this USA-made premium hollowbody features curly maple figuring extending across the body, delivering a clear, articulate voice that benefits from the warmth of the body construction and sound post bracing. The guitar is loaded with the original pair of Seymour Duncan-made HB-1 humbuckers. The HB-1s are lively, articulate, and warm, with just enough bite in the bridge position and ideal breadth and warmth at the neck, while retaining the detail needed for complex chord work. This Guild weighs 7lbs 6oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with low action, accurate intonation, and 11-49 strings. The two-piece maple neck has broad, curly flame figuring extending along the profile which has a slender C-shaped carve with an effortless feel, measuring .815" deep at the 1st fret and .910" at the 12th. The bound rosewood fretboard retains the original slender frets which have flawless, well-rounded crowns. The guitar plays easily up the 24 3/4" scale, and the neck is straight with a responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 1 5/8" in width, and the headstock retains the original Grover Rotomatic tuning machines with clean gold plating and superior tuning stability. The headstock face retains the original X-170 truss rod cover and Guild Chesterfield inlay. All of the electronics function as intended, and both pickups feature Guild-embossed baseplates and Seymour Duncan two-letter stickers. Hardware includes a floating rosewood bridge which has a compensated saddle with room for adjustment at both bridge thumbwheels to set the action to taste. The gold hardware is notably clean, and plastics include the Art Deco stair-stepped pickguard and quartet of black DeArmond-style knobs. The Sunburst nitro lacquer finish highlights the curly flame figuring extending across the entire body, and cosmetic wear is limited to a few light pick scuffs across the guard, and a few exceedingly faint finish scratches in the clear coat of the gloss on the body as a whole. There are a couple tiny chips on the headstock edges, and one similarly small mark just north of the three-way switch on top. The smooth gloss on the neck profile is flawless and free of palm wear. The original brown tolex hardshell case with gold Guild silkscreen on the exterior is included, along with the original manual.
