Up for sale, a 1996 Gibson Les Paul Classic in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. Designed with the 1960 Les Paul Standard as its genesis, the Classic boasts many features that are notable to that era of Les Paul production, such as a '50s headstock shape, deep dish top carve, push-in tuner bushings, ABR-1 bridge, and a slimmer 1960 neck profile.

Featuring a solid (non-weight-relieved) mahogany body and weighing 9lbs 5oz, this Les Paul Classic has plenty of power and cut, with ample natural sustain which translates well through the upgraded Gibson ‘57 Classic PAF humbucker pair. These alnico magnet pickups are dynamic and detailed, with a midrange-rich growl in the bridge position, and smooth, harmonically dense heft at the neck. This Les Paul has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and spot-on intonation.

The one-piece mahogany neck has a 1960-style slim C-shaped profile carve with moderate shoulder and a fast feel, measuring .800” deep at the 1st fret and .890” at the 12th. The rosewood fretboard features pearloid trapezoid inlay and medium jumbo fretwire which exhibits wear beneath all strings on the crowns of frets 1-2 (more prominent beneath the plain strings), with moderate grooves beneath the plain strings and wear growing progressively lighter until the octave. This guitar plays cleanly up the 24 3/4“ scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod, and the nut measures 1 11/16“ in width. The headstock sports the Classic-embossed truss rod cover, Gibson inlay, a "Les Paul Classic" gold silkscreen, and a set of original Gibson Deluxe tuners with keystone buttons and push-in bushings. The large inked serial is intact on the back of the headstock.

All of the electronics function as intended, and the '57 Classic humbuckers are wired to a harness upgraded soon after this guitar was built, with CTS pots that date to '98 and a pair of vintage Black Cat tone caps. The no-wire ABR-1 bridge and stopbar have notably clean nickel plating, and plastics comprise the cream pickup rings and quartet of gold bonnet knobs.

The Goldtop gloss nitro lacquer finish exhibits lacquer checking across the top, with tight “spiderweb” checking along the bass-side edge, and vertical checking extending across the treble side. Cosmetic wear includes a number of minor dings on the body as a whole, largely relegated to the back and perimeter, as well as an area of buckle rash across the bass side of the back, and a handful of pinhead-sized nicks on the top at the lower bout. The smooth gloss on the neck profile has a smooth, well-played feel.

The original Gibson USA hardshell case with brown exterior and pink plush interior is included.
