Up for sale, a 1996 Fender Mini Stratocaster ST-Champ10 in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original padded gigbag. Far from a toy, this “Made in Japan” mini Strat was crafted during the golden era of Fender Japan production. It features a built-in speaker and a single CH humbucker in the bridge position, with a basswood body, maple neck, and thick slab rosewood fretboard.A three-way selector switch provides settings for Off, Clean, and Distortion for the built-in speaker, while Master Volume and Tone controls dictate both the speaker and instrument jack output. With the selector in the Off position, the speaker is bypassed and the instrument jack output works independently from the speaker, while in the other two positions both the instrument out and speaker are simultaneously engaged. The guitar can go from classic cleans to ripping, saturated overdrive at the flip of the selector switch. The ST-Champ10 weighs 6lbs 3oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 9-42 strings, low action, and accurate intonation. The maple neck has a chunky C-shaped profile carve with well-rounded shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .875” deep at the 1st fret and .920” at the 12th. The slab rosewood fretboard features slender fretwire that has been leveled and crowned, in “fretless wonder” territory and showing no wear. This guitar plays cleanly in all registers with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The scale length is 24”, and the bone nut measures 1.650” (42mm) in width. On the headstock, the original chrome Gotoh tuning machines are intact and hold pitch well. The “Made in Japan” text and N-prefix serial are present above the four-bolt neck plate. All of the electronics function as intended, with a three-way selector switch and Master Volume control and Tone controls governing both the speaker output and instrument jack output from the humbucker. The built-in speaker is powered by a 9V battery, easily accessed on the back of the body. The chrome-plated hardware still has plenty of shine, including the two-point End Rox vibrato, jack cup, and block saddles. Plastics comprise the lightly aged knobs, three-ply pickguard with speaker cutout, and the pickup cover with Fender silkscreen text.Cosmetic wear on the gloss three-tone Sunburst finish is limited to some pick scuffing extending beyond the pickguard, a scant few minor dings on the lower botu on top, and a handful of finish scratches on the back. The neck profile retains its smooth gloss, with a few shallow marks on the skunk stripe behind fret 13 that have no impact on playability. The original Fender-branded padded gigbag is included.
