Up for sale, a 1996 Fender Mustang ‘69 vintage reissue model MG69-65 in exceptional condition and in perfect working order. Produced exclusively for the Japanese domestic market decades ago, this “Made in Japan” Mustang is uncommon outside its country of origin. There's plenty to love about this Mustang, from the lightweight and resonant body to the pair of stock single coil pickups that deliver plenty of snap and twang. The crisp, clear voice of the instrument when strummed acoustically translates well through the pickups. Of course one of the most fun sounds on the Mustang is the out-of-phase setting, engaged when both on/off/on pickup selector switches are at their innermost or outermost points. The quack and spank of that particular setting is unique to the Mustang, and there's plenty of tonal range between the two pickups, with meatier sounds when the neck pickup is soloed and more aggressive twang at the bridge. Weighing 7lbs 4oz, this Mustang has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and spot-on intonation. The maple neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve with round shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .825” deep at the 1st fret and .950” at the 12th. The rosewood fretboard has a vintage spec 7 1/4“ radius, and the stock slender fretwire benefits from a recent level and crown, exhibiting no wear. This guitar plays cleanly up the 24” scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod, and the bone nut measures 1 9/16” in width. On the headstock, the Kluson-style tuning machines turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch, and the “Made in Japan” text and N-prefix serial are present above the four-bolt neck plate. All of the electronics work exactly as they should, with on/off/on switches for each single coil and Master Volume and Tone knobs. The Volume pot was previously upgraded to a USA-made CTS component. The vibrato actuates effortlessly, offering a very smooth response and working in concert with the bridge's barrel saddles, and all of the chrome-plated hardware exhibits light surface patina. The Yellow White gloss finish is a factory shade of Olympic White meant to approximate yellowing of the clear coat, accented by a "tomato soup" tortoise pickguard. Cosmetic wear is limited to a handful of minor marks along the lower bout perimeter, light buckle worming across the back, and some faint scratches in the clear coat on the body as a whole. The neck profile retains its smooth ambered gloss, highlighting light figuring in the maple.
