Up for sale, a 1996 Fender Jag-Stang in exceptional condition and in perfect working order, finished in Sonic Blue. From the first year of the Jag-Stang's short production run and part of the less than two year "Made in Japan" period where this model was produced at the lauded Fujigen factory, this Jag-Stang features the original pickup pair and upgraded USA-made wiring harness components.

Famously known for being designed by Kurt Cobain of Nirvana when he took two polaroids of a Mustang and Jaguar and cut them together, the Jag-Stang is in step with the features of both of these classic short scale Fender models, while also satisfying the higher gain pickup needs of Nirvana's chief architect. The guitar weighs 7lbs 7oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, slinky action, and accurate intonation.

The maple neck has a modestly slender C-shaped profile with a bit more shoulder and depth as you travel up the fretboard, modeled after the profile of one of Cobain's favorite '60s Mustangs. The profile measures .815” deep at the 1st fret and .895” at the 12th. The thick rosewood fretboard features a vintage-spec 7 1/4" radius and the original slender fretwire. The frets are in great shape with their full factory height and just a touch of uniform wear on the crowns of frets 1-3. The guitar plays cleanly up the 24” scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 1 9/16" in width. On the headstock, the original Kluson-style chrome tuners turn smoothly and hold pitch as they should. The Fender 50th Anniversary (1996) and Designed by Kurt Cobain decals are intact on the back of the headstock, and the "Made in Japan" text and V-prefix serial are present above the four-bolt neck plate.

The electronics work as they should, with the original Dragster humbucker and ST-Vintage single coil pickup wired to upgraded USA-made CTS pots and a premium Sprague Orange Drop tone cap. The pickups are governed by on/off/on pickup selector switches and a pair of Master Volume and Tone knobs. The chrome hardware is bright and clean with only faint surface patina, and the vibrato unit has a very smooth response, complete with the original arm. Plastics include an upgraded pair of USA-made knobs and a USA-made custom WD red pearloid pickguard. The Sonic Blue gloss finish shows only the faintest greening in the clear coat, and cosmetic wear is limited to scuffing at the treble side of the pick path, a couple stray marks on the treble side waist and treble side horn, and a few light finish scratches and smaller marks on the thick slab body. The neck profile retains its smooth ambered gloss finish.
