Up for sale, a 1995 Washburn USA Custom Shop D3 Blackjack Dimebag Darrell Signature in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case and hangtag. Produced during the first year of the partnership between the Pantera shredder and Wasburn, this rare USA Custom Shop D3 Blackjack features mahogany body construction, loaded with Dime's iconic pairing of a Seymour Duncan zebra bobbin humbucker in the neck position and a Bill Lawrence L500 at the bridge.
This high output pickup pairing is ideally suited to Dime's massive metal tones, and this pairing delivers a particularly broad, beefy tonal spectrum. Aggressive highs, tight lows and plenty of punch and crunch is on tap. The zebra coil Seymour Duncan was hand-wound by Maricela Juarez, the “Queen of the Custom Shop,” who has wound some of SD’s finest pickups for artists including Slash and Billy Gibbons. Both powerful and articulate, this humbucker complements The Bill Lawrence L500 in the bridge position which features a dual-blade design. This Washburn weighs 8lbs 10oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 9-42 strings, slinky action, and accurate intonation.
The mahogany neck has a substantial V-shaped profile carve with ideal heft, filling the palm comfortably and rounding out slightly in the upper registers, measuring .885” deep at the 1st fret and .965” at the 12th. On the bound rosewood fretboard, the refretted jumbo fretwire is pristine, and this guitar plays cleanly up the 24 3/4“ scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The locking nut measures just a hair over 1 5/8“ in width, and the headstock sports the distinctive split-V shape with inlaid Washburn/Dime logo. The stickered barbed wire accents are no longer present. The original Grover Rotomatic tuning machines turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch, with clean black plating, and the back of the headstock retains the razor blade-shaped serial badge.
All of the electronics function as intended, with a replacement three-way pickup selector switch, Master Tone, and independent Volume controls. The Seymour Duncan humbucker retains the sticker on its baseplate, with the “J” identifying it as having been wound by Maricela Juarez. The Schaller-built, Floyd Rose-licensed and Washburn-branded tremolo actuates quickly and snaps back to pitch from the deepest dives.
The gloss Black finish previously had non-originals stickers and/or painted graphics affixed, and there is significant cloudiness and artifacts of these removed graphics in the clear coat on both the front and back of the body. Beyond these areas of finish reaction, cosmetic wear is otherwise limited to some minor dings along the body perimeter and a small area of buckle rash on the back. The neck profile exhibits some similar cloudiness in the clear coat, with a scant few tiny marks along the profile length that don't distract the palm while fretting.
The original Washburn-branded black tolex hardshell case is included, along with the hangtag.
