Up for sale, a 1995 Steinberger GM4S in 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original gigbag. The iconic headless design and exceptional craftsmanship of Steinberger instruments is well-known, leading to their widespread usage by artists including Mark Knopfler and Sting. This particular Steinberger offering features the redesigned (Version #2) GM body style introduced in '91, with Steinberger’s proprietary graphite blend neck, S-Trem vibrato unit, and a trio of EMG pickups.

The ash body and graphite blend neck, affixed with a five-bolt joint, result in a decidedly resonant, balanced and immediate acoustic profile, faithfully captured by the stock trio of low-impedance EMG pickups. The neck and middle positions are a pair of EMG SAs, which deliver Strat-esque single coil tones with ample top end sparkle and tight, responsive lows. Internal shielding and a low impedance preamp also means these single coils are effectively noiseless. The bridge pickup is an EMG 89 humbucker, engineered for both richness and exceptional clarity; resulting in pristine cleans and remaining notably articulate with the heaviest distortion. This Steinberger weighs just 7lbs 3oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 9-42 strings, slinky action, and spot-on intonation.

The graphite blend neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve, measuring .800” deep at the 1st fret and .905” at the 12th. The phenolic resin fretboard has a 15” radius and flawless stock medium jumbo fretwire. This guitar plays cleanly up the 25 1/2” scale with a straight neck, and the neck’s stability is exceptional due to the graphite construction. The fretboard measures 1 5/8“ wide at the zero fret. The TN-prefix serial is stamped onto the treble side of the neck heel, and the heel also retains the factory pencil date from 5/15/95.

On the body, all of the electronics function as intended, with the trio of EMG pickups wired to the stock harness and governed by a five-way selector switch with Master Volume and Tone knobs. The active Tone knob is powered by a 9V battery in the control cavity. The hardware has a faint dusting of surface patina, including the dome-topped knurled knobs and the S-Trem vibrato/tuner system. The S-Trem is an extremely fluid and dynamic design, unique to Steinberger instruments, featuring a bearing pivot and roller saddles for optimal pitch stability and return speed.

The gloss Sunburst finish exhibits some finish checking across the top. Honest playwear includes dings and chips on the body perimeter, some buckle worming central to the back, and a handful of faint scratches and additional small marks on the body as a whole. The smooth gloss finish on the neck profile is pristine.

The original Steinberger-branded padded gigbag is included (the zipper is non-functional).
