Up for sale, a 1995 Gibson Les Paul Custom in exceptional condition and in perfect working order, complete with a vintage hardshell case. From an increasingly heralded era of Gibson production colloquially known as the "good wood era," this Les Paul makes the most of the classic combination of a solid, non-weight relieved mahogany body, carved maple top, and genuine ebony fretboard.A guitar that came equipped from the factory with a B7 vibrato tailpiece, this Black Beauty was actually a two pickup iteration when sold new, having been professionally modded with the third, central humbucker. Weighing 10lbs 15oz, this Les Paul has a lively, clear and rich natural acoustic tone, and the guitar has been wired with a unique control array, offering dedicated Volume knobs for each of the three humbuckers and a Master Tone knob. As such, the guitar has a much broader array of tones than typical triple pickup Custom wiring, with a pair of 490R pickups with Alnico II magnets in the neck and middle positions and an Alnico V 498T at the bridge. The three-way switch is wired Bridge+Middle/All/Bridge+Neck, and the middle pickup acts as an excellent thickening agent when paired with either the bridge or neck position humbuckers. Each pickup position shines on its own, with more biting growl at the bridge, a thick smooth sound at the neck, and the overarching glassy treble snap with loads of articulation. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar and strung with 10-46 strings, this Les Paul is everything a top-tier Gibson model was designed to be.The one-piece mahogany neck has a medium C profile carve that retains plenty of shoulder and roundness, gaining a hair more heft as you travel up the fingerboard, measuring .845” deep at the 1st fret and .975" at the 12th. The ebony fretboard sports pearl block inlay and original practically pristine fretwire which retains its full factory height, showing virtually no wear. The neck is straight, the truss rod is responsive and optimally adjusted, and the guitar plays easily in every register with low action. The nut measures 1 11/16" in width, and the headstock has all the classic appointments of a Les Paul Custom, with multi-ply binding, split diamond pearl inlay, and "Custom" truss rod cover. The original Grover Rotomatic tuners turn smoothly and hold pitch well. All of the electronics work as they should, with a pair of stock Gibson 490R and 498T humbuckers augmented by the professionally added central 490R pickup with a flawless route. The original wiring harness is intact, with CTS pots that date to the first weeks of '95. The hardware includes a vintage-spec ABR-1 bridge and corresponding stopbar, and the gold plating is positively gleaming. Other accents include a quartet of black speed knobs, and the stock switch surround and tip. Cosmetic wear on the gloss Ebony nitro lacquer finish is limited to some very faint finish scratches in the clear coat of the gloss on top, both across the strum path and also where the forearm crosses the top, and wear is similarly restrained on the back with no buckle rash. The gloss on the neck profile is extremely clean and smooth. An '80s Gibson "chainsaw" molded plastic hardshell case with blue plush interior is included.
