Up for sale, a 1995 Gibson Les Paul Classic Premium Plus in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. The highest tiered of the three Classic models, this Premium Plus features jaw-dropping figuring across the Honey Burst-finished top. Extremely tight, and three-dimensional straight tiger flame extends liberally across the two-piece top, with a notable deep dish carve and slight return at the binding edge, faithful to '50s Gibson spec.
Designed with the 1960 Les Paul Standard as the jumping off point, the Classic boasts many features that are notable to the golden era of Les Paul production, such as a '50s headstock shape, push-in tuner bushings, ABR-1 bridge, and a slimmer 1960 neck profile. This Gibson boasts a solid (non-weight relieved) mahogany body capped with a carved two-piece maple top, offering plenty of power and cut, with ample sustain which translates well through the original 496R and 500T humbuckers. Lightweight at 8lbs 12oz, this Les Paul has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with slinky action, solid intonation, and fresh 9-42 strings.
The one-piece mahogany neck has textbook “60s” C profile carve, slender and fast-feeling with just enough roundness in the shoulders, measuring .805" deep at the 1st fret and .890" at the 12th. The extremely dark rosewood fretboard has particularly appealing and lively pearl inlays, and the original frets have their full factory height with decent grooves beneath the plain strings on frets 1-3 and wear growing more faint until fret 6. The guitar plays cleanly in all registers, the neck is straight, and the truss rod is responsive. Also notable, the fretboard inlays are quite clear, free of the aging that would skew the inlay color on later years of the Classic model. The headstock sports the Classic embossed truss rod cover, pearl Gibson inlay, Les Paul Classic gold silkscreen, and a set of upgraded genuine Kluson Deluxe single line tuners with transparent keystone buttons. The serial number is inked with the larger font seen on the earliest Classic reissues.
The guitar does exhibit an older U-shaped headstock repair which is difficult to spot, extremely cleanly repaired, and smooth to the touch.
All of the electronics work as they should, with stock 496R and 500T pickups and untouched solder joints on the harness. A pair of nickel covers have been added to the original pickups for a more vintage-correct look, and the bridge pickup cavity has the "LPPP" designation for the Premium Plus model. Hardware includes the ABR-1 bridge and stopbar which show uniform surface patina, and all of the original plastics are present including the gold bell knobs, cream pickup rings, and switch surround. The pickguard shows light aging with a small repair at the forward mounting hole.
The Honey Burst nitro lacquer gloss finish borders on a Tobacco Burst (or “Vintage Sunburst” as Gibson codified their darker sunburst in the era), and the figuring is as deep and dimensional as we've seen on any Premium Plus model, easily rivaling the maple used on Custom Shop examples and framed by deeply ambered binding. Cosmetic wear includes a spot of buckle rash adjacent to the switch cover on the back with additional finish scratches and dings across the back particularly favoring the bass-side lower bout. There are a few shallow dings at the bass-side waist on top and some additional minor marks on the lower bout behind the bridge. The gloss on the neck profile is nigh flawless.
The original brown tolex "Gibson USA" hardshell case with pink interior is included.
