Up for sale, a 1995 Gibson J-200 1958 vintage reissue jumbo acoustic guitar in exceptional condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case and factory paperwork. This J-200 was originally sold to the Japanese domestic market through Gibson’s Japanese distributor Yamano; befitting Yamano’s reputation for demanding Gibson’s finest tonewoods and instruments, often a cut above what arrives to most USA dealers.
Described by Gibson as "King of the Flat-tops;" the J-200 is an impressive instrument both visually and sonically, and few acoustic instruments can match its sheer projection and power. With a lower bout that's 17" in width, and a body depth of over 4 1/2", this cannon has a tone that is defined and clear, taking full advantage of the articulate top end snap of maple and the classic, balanced tone of a solid spruce top. Weighing 5lbs on the dot, this J-200 has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with bronze 12-53 strings and easy-playing action
The maple neck has a slender, effortless C-shaped profile carve with round shoulders in all registers, measuring .810" deep at the 1st fret and .900" at the 9th. There is one spot of "rack rash" buffed smooth and worn to the bare maple behind fret 10 and not a distraction while fretting. The bound rosewood fretboard features graduated crown inlays and stock slender fretwire. The slim "banjo" frets are in great shape, showing only a hint of wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-5. This Gibson plays cleanly up the 25 1/2“ scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 1 11/16” in width. The bound headstock features the Gibson logo and crown inlay, and the original set of Kluson-style tuning machines turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch, with push-in bushings and faintly greened tulip buttons.
On the body, the iconic open mustache rosewood bridge sits flush with top on all edges, with abalone inlay in the rosewood. The saddle has been upgraded with a carved piece of bone for optimal note clarity and sustain, with tons of height for future adjustment. The dark tortoise pickguard has floral graphics, with light pick scuffing across the strum path.
The body is framed by lightly ambered multi-ply binding, and the Vintage Sunburst nitro lacquer finish highlights the figuring in the maple on the back and sides, with ripples of dimensional curly bookmatched flame on the back in particular. There are a couple isolated spots of lacquer checking behind the bridge on top and at the bass side waist, as well as just beyond the neck heel on the back. Cosmetic wear is limited to a limited area of buckle rash on the back central to the waist, with just a few tiny additional nicks and faint scratches on the body as a whole. The neck profile is extremely clean save for the aforementioned rack rash, offering a smooth, comfortable playing experience in every register.
The original hardshell case is included, along with the factory paperwork.
