Up for sale, a 1995 Gibson Advanced Jumbo 1936 vintage reissue dreadnought acoustic guitar in excellent condition, complete with the original hardshell case and all factory paperwork. Notable for its Japanese domestic market paperwork, this Advanced Jumbo was ordered by Gibson's Japanese distributor Yamano. Gibson's USA-made guitars distributed via Yamano are often considered among their best, featuring the highest quality woods picked for Gibson's discerning Japanese audience. Introduced in 1936, only 300 Advanced Jumbo guitars were originally produced before the J-200 Super Jumbo took its place. This rare reissue model was made at the Bozeman, Montana factory by Gibson USA with all the Pre-War hallmarks of Gibson construction.Featuring solid Indian rosewood back and sides, a Sitka spruce top with scalloped X bracing, and a one-piece mahogany neck, the AJ offers a full, expansive tonal range. As the guitar features Gibson's full 25 1/2" scale (as opposed to their usual 24 3/4" dreadnought playing field), the extra tension on the top attributed to this scale length results in an incredibly clear and rich sound with ample projection, great string-to-string clarity, and superior note definition when chording. Both a powerful strummer and an ideal fingerpicker, the AJ's solid rosewood back and sides also lend extra clarity, low end heft, and dynamic potential not often heard on a Gibson dreadnought. The top has been nicely worked-in over the past 25+ years, delivering a relaxed, broad sound not typically attributed to an off-the-shelf new guitar. And while visually similar to a J-45, the AJ has a higher volume ceiling with more bass kick and less compression as you dig in. The guitar weighs 4lbs 11oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 12-54 bronze strings and easy-playing action. The mahogany neck has a soft V-shaped profile carve, slender in depth with an effortless feel, measuring .835" deep at the 1st fret and .915" at the 9th. The bound rosewood fretboard features diamond arrow inlay and slender vintage-spec "banjo" fretwire which retains its full factory height and well-rounded crowns, showing just a hint of wear beneath the plain strings on the crowns of frets 1-3. The guitar plays easily in every register up the 25 1/2” scale, and the neck is straight with a responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The nut measures a full 1 3/4" in width, and the headstock boasts a vintage-correct "Gibson" script logo and diamond arrow inlay with a set of nickel-plated tuners with butterbean buttons. The slope shoulder X-braced dreadnought body features a rosewood bridge that sits flush with the top on all edges, showing very little deflection of the top behind the bridge. The saddle has moderate height with room for further adjustment, tall enough to achieve ideal bass response and low enough for easy-playing action in every register. The action currently sits at 7/64" on the bass side measured at the 12th fret, and 5/64" on the treble side. Visible through the soundhole, the orange oval Gibson label notes the "Vintage AJ" designation with a serial number that dates the guitar to 1995 (matching the serial embossed on the back of the headstock). The gloss nitro lacquer Vintage Sunburst finish on top is accented by a tiger stripe pickguard. There is one repaired top crack just to the bass side of the center seam behind the bridge, cleanly and minimally cleated, while the back and sides are crack-free. There is broad lacquer checking on top, with some pick scuffing extending beyond the edges of the pickguard on the treble side of the top. Wear is otherwise limited to just a few tiny marks and faint finish scratches on the back and sides. The gloss finish on the neck profile is flawless. The original premium hardshell case is included, with a brown mottled exterior like a vintage Lifton, and a purple plush interior. The latches and premium handle are intact, and there are a few small stickers on the case lid. All of the original Gibson/Yamano paperwork is present too.
