Up for sale, a 1995 B.C. Rich Mockingbird Supreme in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. A premium USA-made neck through iteration of the Mockingbird platform, this guitar is unique even among Supremes for two reasons. Dated 1/95 on the back of the headstock with a serial only a couple dozen digits away from a verified NAMM show example from the same batch, it's highly likely this guitar was also a NAMM showcase instrument at the January, 1995 Winter NAMM show. Also, produced at a time when Bernie Rico Sr. was once again at the helm of the B.C. Rich company, this guitar is signed on the back of the headstock where one would expect to see Rico's signature, yet it's more dashed-off then his usual penmanship (signature is factory, but ultimately inconclusive as to whom).
Absolutely stunning in its presentation, this Mockingbird Supreme boasts three-piece maple neck through body construction with rosewood stringers and highly figured quilted maple wings. The neck is capped with a bound ebony fingerboard, and the guitar has an extremely articulate and cutting acoustic tone that sustains beautifully. Pickups include the original Dimarzio humbucker pair with a Dual Sound DP101 in the bridge position, and a DP103 PAF at the neck. The DP101 is a four-conductor version of the famed Super Distortion, and this high output ceramic magnet design dishes out thick, authoritative sounds with plenty of growl and punch. The neck pickup, in contrast is a vintage-flavored Dimarzio PAF with Alnico V magnet construction, offering the perfect balance between warmth and clarity and the ability to go from clean to distorted by pick attack alone.
Controls comprise a Master Volume, three-way pickup selector, Preamp Volume, Preamp On/Off switch, 6-position Varitone, Phase switch, Dual Sound neck pickup switch, Dual sound bridge pickup switch, and a Master Tone control to round things out. This Mockingbird has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.
The three-piece maple neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve with just enough roundness in the shoulders, measuring .805" deep at the 1st fret and .855" at the 12th. The bound slab ebony fingerboard features abalone cloud inlays and jumbo fretwire that has plenty of meat and crown, playing cleanly in every register up the 24 3/4" scale. The carved bone nut measures a full 1 11/16" in width, and the headstock has a bound rosewood overlay with the Rich "R" inlaid. The original nickel-plated Grover Imperial tuners are intact, turning smoothly with some patina on the gear housings and stair-stepped buttons. The 95-prefix serial number is stamped on the last fret.
All of the electronics function as intended, the original wraparound bridge is intact, and all original knobs are present. Cosmetic wear on the gloss finish is limited to a tiny bit of cloudiness in the clear coat on the headstock face adjacent to the bolt bushings, some light finish scratches central to the back, and scattered minor marks along the back lower bout body edge. The neck profile has a smooth gloss finish with just a few minor dings that aren't distracting to the palm while fretting.
The original hardshell case is included.
