Up for sale, a 1994 Orville SG-65 in excellent condition and in perfect working order. Produced exclusively for the Japanese domestic market and uncommon outside of its country of origin, this Orville is an official Gibson-licensed guitar and a result of a partnership between Gibson USA and their Japanese distributor Yamano Gakki. Named after Gibson's founder, Orville Gibson, this discontinued Orville model was crafted at the Terada factory.Featuring the classic tonewood complement of a mahogany body, mahogany neck, and bound rosewood fretboard, this guitar has a warm, resonant acoustic profile with a woody bark faithfully captured by the stock pair of humbuckers. These PAF-style pickups meter at 7.6k ohms, delivering sweet trebles, tailored mids and spongy yet defined lows. The bridge pickup has more midrange forward growl and cut, while the neck pickup has more girth and fullness. This SG weighs 6lbs 12oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation. The mahogany neck has a slender '60s style C-shaped profile carve with generous shoulders, measuring .815” deep at the 1st fret and .950” at the 12th. The bound rosewood fretboard features pearloid trapezoid inlay, and the medium jumbo fretwire retains its full factory height and well-rounded crowns, only exhibiting a hint of wear beneath the plain strings on the crowns of frets 1-6. This guitar plays cleanly up the 24 3/4“ scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod, and the bone nut measures 1 11/16” in width. The "open book" headstock has all the hallmarks of an SG Standard, with Orville and crown inlays, a bell truss rod cover, and Kluson-style tuning machines with lightly greened keystone buttons. The inked serial number dates to ‘94.All of the electronics function as intended, with a standard SG control configuration, and the original full-size 500k Japanese pots date to ‘93. The nickel-plated hardware has a light dusting of surface patina, including the pickup covers, ABR-1 bridge and stopbar. Plastics comprise the original quartet of black reflector cap knobs and a replacement vintage-spec three-ply black pickguard furnished by Pickguardian.Cosmetic wear on the gloss Cherry Red finish is limited to just a handful of minor dings on the body as a whole, largely relegated to the perimeter and the lower bout on top. The smooth gloss on the neck profile is pristine save for one shallow mark on the bass-side shoulder at fret 11 that doesn't distract the palm while fretting. The original “Orville by Gibson”-branded gigbag is included.
