Up for sale, a 1994 Martin Limited Edition HD-28 GM LSH Grand Marquis Large Soundhole in near-mint condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. Inspired by Martin’s best Pre-War dreadnoughts and augmented with ornate marquetry, this HD-28 is one of just 151 instruments produced, boasting a “1935 style” solid Sitka spruce top with forward-shifted scalloped X bracing and an oversized soundhole for optimal projection and power. The herringbone trim (doubled up on the soundhole), Pre-War fingerboard inlay, vertical headstock inlay, and etched, gold-plated tuning machines visually elevate this Grand Marquis beyond many of Martin’s other upscale models.
A real cannon, this Martin has incredible projection and detail, thanks in no small part to the scalloped, forward-shifted X bracing on the top. Extremely bold and lively, this Martin has a relaxed, open-sounding character befitting a top that’s had a couple decades to open up, and there’s a notable midrange-forward smoothness to the overall sound while also offering plenty of note detail.
