Up for sale, a 1994 Fender Stratocaster '62 vintage reissue model ST62-53 in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. Produced in the famed Fujigen factory in Japan, this early "Made in Japan" Strat is an uncommon left-handed example, made exclusively for the Japanese domestic market and is rarely seen outside its country of origin.
Designed to pay homage to the golden era Pre-CBS Strat, this early Fender Japan model has a clear, spanky acoustic tone with great clarity and cut, featuring a basswood body, maple neck, and thick slab rosewood fretboard. The pickups are a ceramic magnet variety used briefly on the ST62 model in the mid '90s, delivering an authoritative, cutting sound with more punch than traditional alnico magnets. The guitar weighs 7lbs 7oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action and solid intonation.
The maple neck has a fairly chunky C-shaped profile carve with full shoulders in every register and notable heft as you travel up the fretboard, measuring .850” deep at the 1st fret and .990” at the 12th. The thick slab rosewood fretboard is a dark cut of this particular tonewood, featuring a vintage-correct 7 1/4" fretboard radius and original slender fretwire that retains its full factory height, showing moderate wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-5 and virtually no wear further up the fretboard. The instrument plays cleanly in all positions, and the neck is straight with a responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The scale length is 25 1/2”, and the nut measures 1.650" (42mm) in width. The headstock sports a Pre-CBS small Strat shape, with correct logo and Kluson-style Gotoh tuners which turn smoothly and hold pitch well. Above the four-bolt neck plate, the "Made in Japan" text and S-prefix serial number are present.
All of the electronics work as intended, and the stock trio of ceramic magnet single coil pickups are wired to the original harness with untouched solder joints. The chrome plating on the hardware has plenty of shine, showing uniform patina on the bridge saddles in particular, and plastics include uniformly aged pickup covers and knobs and a three-ply white pickguard with some requisite pick scuffing on the treble side. The three-tone Sunburst gloss finish shows a few spots of broad, faint finish checking, with one small finish chip on the edge of the belly contour and a few additional minor dings and light finish scratches on the body as a whole. The ambered gloss finish on the neck profile is flawless.
