Up for sale, a 1994 Fender Stratocaster '62 vintage reissue 40th Anniversary model electric guitar in exceptional condition and in perfect working order with an upgraded Seymour Duncan SSL pickup set. This rare limited edition model was crafted exclusively for the Japanese domestic market and is an exceedingly rare upscale iteration which features one of Fender's most desirable custom colors, Burgundy Mist, as well as a matching peghead. This distinct iteration of Burgundy Mist is typically seen from 1994-96 from Fender Japan and is closer to a light shade of coppery salmon.
Via the upgraded black bobbin Seymour Duncan SSL pickup set, this Stratocaster has plenty of sparkle and percussive cut in every pickup position, with a bridge pickup providing plenty of bite and twang. The "in between" positions on the five-way pickup selector switch have a snappy, thinned-out quack, and the neck pickup is bold and round with a throaty zing that's harmonically rich and great for lead work. Acoustically resonant and well-balanced on a strap, this Strat weighs 7lbs 10oz. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, this guitar plays great with low action and solid intonation.
The maple neck has a deeply ambered "Foto Flame" finish, which is essentially a printed pattern to appear like heavily figured flame maple, and the profile has a medium C profile carve with round, inviting shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, feeling both effortless and substantial, measuring .845” deep at the 1st fret and .985” at the 12th. The slab rosewood fretboard has a 7 1/4" vintage fretboard radius and stock vintage-style fretwire that shows moderate wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-2, extending more faintly beneath the B string until fret 4. The neck is straight, the truss rod is responsive, and the guitar plays well in all registers. The nut measures 1 11/16" in width.
The headstock features a Pre-CBS small Strat shape, matching the Burgundy Mist body and fitted with original Kluson-style Gotoh tuners which turn smoothly and hold pitch well. There is some flaking of the Foto Flame veneer on the back of the headstock, and the printed pattern is otherwise stable and smooth to the touch. The guitar features a 40th Anniversary four-bolt neck plate, with all the requisite factory stamps on the heel and in the pocket, noting the model and custom color. The "Made in Japan" text and S-prefix serial are also present just north of the neck plate.
On the body, the electronics all work as they should, with the original harness and trio of upgraded Seymour Duncan pickups. The vintage-style vibrato is faithful to Fender's original design, sporting Fender-branded saddles anchored to the body with six crosshead, dome-top screws. The full-size zinc tremolo block adds to the fullness of this Strat's tone, and actuates easily for quick surfy warbles and deeper dives. The original plastics include a three-ply mint green pickguard and uniformly aged plastic parts. The custom color Burgundy Mist finish is remarkably well-kept, with wear limited to just a couple small dings on the back, and light pick scuffing on the treble side of the guard.
The original Fender-branded gigbag is included.
