Up for sale, a 1994 Fender Jazzmaster '62 vintage reissue model JM66-RC in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. This "Made in Japan" Jazzmaster was produced in the golden age of Fender Japan, designed for the Japanese domestic market and uncommon outside its country of origin. The guitar features a distinctive shade of Burgundy Mist complete with matching headstock, unique to the early years of Fender Japan with a more ruddy, coppery appearance.
At 7lbs 14oz, this Jazzmaster is a medium weight example with a smooth, clear acoustic voice that translates faithfully through the original single coil pair. There's plenty of twang and sparkle on tap, with a range of defined and powerful tones from the two alnico magnet pickups. Warmer, wooly sounds can be accessed via the Rhythm Circuit on the guitar's lower body horn too. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar where we specialize in Fender Offset instruments, this Jazzmaster is dialed in for low action and accurate intonation with 11-49 roundwound strings.
The maple neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve with round shoulders in every register, offering a substantial yet fast-feeling carve, measuring .850” deep at the 1st fret and .940” at the 12th. The rosewood fretboard has dot inlay and practically perfect original slender vintage-style frets that retain their full factory height with well-rounded crowns. The guitar plays cleanly up the 25 1/2" scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 42.5mm in width (1.675"). The Burgundy Mist-finished headstock sports a Pre-CBS style "Spaghetti" Jazzmaster logo, with Kluson-style tuning machines which turn smoothly and hold pitch well. The "Made in Japan" text and S-prefix serial number are present above the four-bolt neck plate.
All of the electronics work as they should, and the chrome hardware is bright and clean. The vibrato unit engages smoothly, working in concert with the stock bridge. Plastics include deeply yellowed pickup covers and knobs and a multi-ply parchment pickguard which exhibits light pick scuffing. The Burgundy Mist gloss finish is stunning in its presentation, and cosmetic wear is limited to just a few minor dings and light finish scuffs on the back, and one small ding on the bass-side lower bout on top. The ambered gloss finish on the neck profile is flawless.
A Fender-branded gigbag is included (the smaller pocket zipper is non-functional).
