Up for sale, a 1993 Ibanez FGM300 Frank Gambale signature model in near-mint condition and in perfect working order. Designed in collaboration with Australian fusion guitarist Gambale, this Ibanez was crafted at the Fujigen factory, built for the speed and efficiency Gamable built his name upon. Features include a sleek, slender S Series body, DiMarzio pickups, a Lo-Pro Edge tremolo, sharktooth inlay on the 22-fret rosewood fingerboard, and a Green Metallic gloss finish.
The mahogany body provides great natural midrange warmth and growl, and this FGM300 is featherweight at 6lbs 14oz. The DiMarzio trio of pickups include a PAF Pro Lite humbucker at the bridge, Fast Track 1 single coil-sized humbucker in the middle, and a FRED Lite at the neck, offering a variety of distinct sounds with dense harmonics, smooth articulation, and dynamic musicality. The Lite versions of the PAF Pro and FRED were specifically designed to Gambale’s specs and are not found outside of the FGM instruments; these pickups utilize a lower magnetic field to minimize string pull and “warbling” (regardless of how low the action is), effectively incorporating a notably early version of DiMarzio’s air gap design (later seen on pickups like the Air Norton). The Fast Track 1 in the middle position features blade pole pieces, offering plenty of midrange power and potency while still delivering sparkling treble shimmer, and the global push/pull coil tap at the Volume knob enables single coil snap. This FGM300 has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar, dialed in with 9-42 strings, slinky action, and accurate intonation.
