The sound is distinctive and nuanced, with a clarity and richness achieved thanks to the solid rosewood back and sides and jumbo body size. This Guild is an ideal strummer that has plenty of percussive cut, offering low end fullness without being overly boomy. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar and weighing 6lbs 2oz, this Guild has comfortable action, strung with 12-53 bronze strings. The neck comprises two-pieces of mahogany with a central strip of maple, and the neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve with nicely rounded shoulders and just a hair more heft as you travel up the fingerboard, measuring .830” deep at the 1st fret and .880” at the 9th. An upscale model, the ebony fretboard on the JF55 features multi-ply binding and pearl block inlays bisected by abalone Vs. The medium jumbo fretwire is flawless, with its full factory height and well-rounded crowns, playing cleanly up the 25 5/8" scale with 14 frets clear of the body. The nut is a hand-carved piece of bone measuring 1 3/4", and the headstock features Guild's signature G shield logo. The original Grover Rotomatic tuners are intact too, turning smoothly with gold plating that is positively gleaming. The body features an abalone rosette and tortoise pickguard, and the solid ebony bridge sits flush with the top, fitted with the stock saddle which still has good height. The gloss finish is framed by nine-ply top and back binding, and this Guild is stunningly well-kept, with cosmetic wear limited to a few pinhead-sized nicks on the lower bout on top, and a few extremely faint finish scratches in the clear coat on the body as a whole. The gloss finish on the neck profile is flawless. The original Guild-branded black tolex hardshell case is included, along with all of the factory paperwork.
