1993 Gibson Les Paul Standard Cherry Sunburst w/ Seymour Duncan SH-18, Case & Hangtag

+ shipping

Up for sale, a 1993 Gibson Les Paul Standard in exceptional condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case and hangtag. This early modern Standard has a particularly powerful voice as well as a warm Heritage Cherry Sunburst finish with a burst gradient extremely similar to Gibson's current Historic models. Weighing 9lbs 10oz, this Les Paul is un-chambered, unlike many of the Standards that came after it, and the solid mahogany body has a certain sustain, punch, and fullness indicative of the early Standard models. Loaded with an upgraded pair of Seymour Duncan SH-18 "Whole Lotta Love" humbuckers, these higher wind PAF-style pickups boast rough cast Alnico V magnets, 42 gauge plain-enamel wire, and nickel covers. These pickups have a very slight natural compression and enhanced sustain, with the warmth, intensity, and character indicative of the most ripping British rock. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this Les Paul Standard is setup with 10-46 strings, slinky action, and solid intonation.

The neck has a modestly slender C-shaped profile carve at the nut with round shoulders in every register and notable heft as you travel up the fretboard, measuring .835" deep at the 1st fret and .985" at the 12th. The original frets are nigh flawless with their full factory height, showing just a touch of wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-3. The guitar plays cleanly in all registers, the neck is straight, and the truss rod is responsive and optimally adjusted. The nut has Gibson's traditional 1 11/16" width, and the dark rosewood fretboard sports pearl trapezoid inlays. The headstock retains the original "Standard" truss rod cover and features a set of original bolt bushing Gibson Deluxe double line tuners which have vintage-spec keystone buttons which are notably more transparent than the heavily greened buttons seen on later models.

All of the electronics work as they should, with the Seymour Duncan SH-18 humbucker pair wired to a fully upgraded harness with tightly spec'd MOJO 500k pots and vintage Sprague paper-in-oil Black Beauty capacitors. The chrome plating is gleaming on the Nashville bridge and corresponding stopbar, and the original plastics are all intact and near mint including the pickguard, pickup rings, and quartet of gold bonnet knobs.

The original nitro lacquer Cherry Sunburst finish is rich and vibrant on the two-piece carved maple top, with a deep Cherry gloss on the mahogany back and sides, accented by cream binding on both the top and neck. Bookmatched flame figuring extends across the top and lower bout, and the top is particularly clean with just a few faint pick scuffs in the strum path. Wear is otherwise limited to a few shallow marks on the back at the bass-side waist and some faint finish scratches in the clear coat of the gloss on the lower bout, notably shy of “buckle rash.” The neck profile retains a very smooth nitro gloss, free of palm wear.

The original brown tolex Gibson USA hardshell case is included and equally as clean as the guitar with functional latches (save for the central lock) and a pink plush interior. The original hangtag is included too.
