Up for sale, a 1993 Collings 0002H in near-mint condition, complete with the original premium Calton flight case and factory paperwork. This one-owner Collings retains the original factory paperwork and correspondence with Collings, and the paperwork matches the name engraved on the Calton case’s badge. While ostensibly a vintage instrument at 30 years old, this Collings presents as showroom-clean, with barely a scratch on the high gloss nitro lacquer finish.A notably early Collings, the 12-fret 000 model has the same general appearance as the Collings 00, but in a larger size with longer string scale. Although it's the same width and depth as the OM, the longer body typically produces more bass and overall volume, making it ideal for string-band purists or any guitarist who wants maximum power from a 000-sized body.Tonewoods include a spruce top with Pre-War scalloped X bracing, East Indian rosewood back and sides, and a mahogany neck with 12 frets clear of the body. The sound is the textbook definition of "piano-like clarity," and the fullness of each individually picked note is astounding. This guitar delivers brilliant top end sparkle that’s smooth yet very detailed, and the low end has a taught yet full bass frequency bloom that rings out with smooth, impressive sustain. It's the kind of acoustic guitar perfection that pairs the hallmarks of a vintage instrument with the sonic refinement and incredible roadworthiness of a modern build. Even the lightest strum results in incredible volume, and the harder you play, the more this guitar gives you without ever losing the clarity and structure of lower frequencies. Featherweight at 3lbs 15oz, this Collings 0002H is strung with 12-53 bronze strings, dialed in for easy-playing action. The mahogany neck has a carve that's slightly more slender than Collings' Modified V, and this relatively slim soft V profile shape measures .820” deep at the 1st fret and .910” at the 9th fret. The thick slab ebony fretboard features pearl slotted-diamond inlay and slender nickel silver fretwire that retains its full factory height and well-rounded crowns, showing only light wear beneath the plain strings 1-3. The guitar plays cleanly in all registers up the full 25 1/2" scale length, with 12 frets clear of the body. The hand carved bone nut measures a full 1 13/16" in width, and the high gloss-finished Brazilian rosewood peghead veneer is inlaid with the Collings name. The nickel-plated Waverly tuners have flawless plating and a very smooth 16:1 ratio. On the body, subtle accents include herringbone purfling, a multi-ring rosette, and small teardrop tortoise pickguard on the spruce top. There's barely a scratch on the body, and the neck profile is similarly pristine. The original Calton flight case is included (a $1500 value), and the tag on the case lid is stamped with the name of the original owner, matching the included factory paperwork and correspondence with Collings.
