Up for sale, a 1992 Orville by Gibson Les Paul Standard in 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. Differentiated from the standard Orville-branded instruments, the "Orville by Gibson" guitars represented the highest tier of Japanese construction, outfitted from the factory with USA Gibson pickups. Made exclusively for the Japanese market and rarely seen outside its country of origin, this Orville is an official Gibson-licensed guitar and a result of a partnership between Gibson USA and their Japanese distributor Yamano Gakki. Named after Gibson's founder, Orville Gibson, this long ago discontinued Orville model was crafted at the Fujigen factory.A notably lightweight example at only 8lbs 9oz, this iteration of a late '50s Les Paul Standard features a particularly uncommon gloss Vintage Sunburst finish on the carved maple top, paired with a solid mahogany body and one-piece neck capped with a dark tight-grained rosewood fretboard. The humbuckers meter at  7.5k ohms in both positions, delivering a classic PAF tonal profile with great top end articulation and tailored mids for maximum clarity across their wide dynamic range. The neck pickup is warm and rich, while the bridge pickup has a drive-ready, aggressive bite that still maintains some fat and chunk. We've had this Les Paul professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, comfortable action, and spot-on intonation. The mahogany neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve at the nut, with more overall heft and chunk as you travel up the fretboard, measuring .815" deep at the 1st fret and .960" at the 12th. The rosewood fretboard features cream fret-edge binding, pearloid trapezoid inlay, and original medium jumbo frets. The frets retain their full factory height, showing wear beneath all strings favoring the treble side of the board from frets 1-7, with lighter wear beneath the plain strings extending to the octave. This guitar plays easily in every register with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. Matching traditional Gibson spec, the guitar has a 24 3/4“ scale length and a 1 11/16” wide nut, carved from bone for optimal note clarity and sustain. The headstock features Gibson's “open book” shape and “Orville by Gibson” inlay, with nickel Kluson-style tuners which turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch. All of the electronics work as they should, with individual Volume and Tone controls for each pickup and a three-way pickup selector toggle. Solder joints are untouched, both humbuckers retain their PAF stickers, and the wiring harness has full-size Japanese pots. The hardware comprises a chrome Nashville-style Tune-o-Matic bridge and corresponding stopbar, and plastics include the original quartet of gold bonnet knobs. The two-tone Vintage Sunburst finish has a number of chips and dings in the gloss along the bass-side lower bout on the back, as well as buckle rash concentrated at the bass-side waist. The gloss finish on the neck profile is clean and smooth. This Orville by Gibson is a classic example of Gibson-sanctioned Japanese craftsmanship, boasting the Les Paul's vital combination of tonewoods and a pair of rich-sounding humbuckers to match. The original “Orville by Gibson”-branded black tolex hardshell case is included. All latches are functional save for one, and the handle is intact.
