Up for sale, a 1992 Orville by Gibson Les Paul Standard in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, with an Ebony gloss finish and USA-made Gibson humbuckers Made exclusively for the Japanese domestic market and rarely seen outside its country of origin, this Orville is an official Gibson-licensed guitar and a result of a partnership between Gibson USA and their Japanese distributor Yamano Gakki. Named after Gibson's founder, Orville Gibson, this discontinued Orville model was crafted at the Terada factory. This guitar delivers everything you want in a good Les Paul, with a solid mahogany body and neck, solid maple cap, and a pair of factory-installed Gibson USA humbuckers. The pickups include a Gibson USA-embossed 490T in the bridge position, and a marking-less (but still USA Gibson) 490R at the neck. The pickups in this Orville translate the instrument's clear acoustic voice into a powerful array of big, crisp voicings. The bridge pickup has the growl, midrange cut, and dynamic clarity you’d expect, while the neck pickup is girthy and thick while still retaining enough clarity and definition to handle higher gain. Additionally, the pickups clean up decently when backing off the volume a touch, and the tone controls are equally as responsive. Weighing 8lbs 11oz, this Orville has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation. The mahogany neck has a medium C profile carve with modest shoulder and an easy-playing feel, measuring .840" deep at the 1st fret and .935" at the 12th. The bound rosewood fretboard features flared trapezoid inlay and stock fretwire. The frets are medium jumbo in size with their full factory height and ample meat, practically pristine with just a hint of wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-2. The guitar plays easily in every register with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. Matching traditional Gibson spec, the guitar features a 24 3/4“ scale length, and the nut measures 1 11/16" in width. The nickel Kluson-style tuners are intact on the headstock, which has the correct "open book" shape and "Orville by Gibson" pearl inlay. The serial number is also inked on the back of the headstock with a G-prefix noting the USA Gibson components used on this instrument. All of the electronics work as they should, with individual Volume and Tone controls for each pickup and a three-way pickup selector toggle. The amber bonnet knobs are intact, and the cream plastic parts match the lightly ambered body and neck binding. This is particularly well-kept Orville, with cosmetic wear limited to scuffing in the pick path and light marks and scuffs in the Ebony gloss relegated to the body parameter. The smooth gloss finish on the neck profile is flawless. The original Orville-branded gigbag is included.
