1992 Orville by Gibson Les Paul Custom LPC Antique Ivory w/ 490R & 490T, Japan

Up for sale, a 1992 Orville by Gibson Les Paul Custom LPC in excellent condition and in perfect working order. Made exclusively for the Japanese market and rarely seen outside its country of origin, this Orville is an official Gibson-licensed guitar and a result of a partnership between Gibson USA and their Japanese distributor Yamano Gakki. Named after Gibson's founder, Orville Gibson, this long ago discontinued Orville model was crafted at the Terada factory.

Differentiated from the standard Orville-branded instruments, the "Orville by Gibson" guitars represented the highest tier of Japanese construction, outfitted from the factory with USA Gibson pickups. A medium weight example at only 8lbs 12oz, this guitar delivers the goods, with a solid mahogany body and neck, carved maple top, dark tight-grained rosewood fretboard, and a pair of early USA-made Gibson 490R and 490T humbuckers.

Marketed by Gibson as their "Modern Classic" humbucker, the 490s have the overarching tonal profile of a PAF with a few important tweaks on that winning formula. Made with traditional Alnico II construction, the 490 humbuckers have a slightly boosted midrange and are wax-potted, features designed to interact well in high gain scenarios. The bridge pickup sound offers equal parts clarity and growl, while the neck pickup has a bit more girth and fullness, perfect for soloing or clean passages where you need a mellow yet articulate sound. This Les Paul Custom has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with fresh 10-46 strings, low action and accurate intonation.

The gloss Antique Ivory finish is shot to present as a yellowed iteration of Alpine White, with subtle additional yellowing in the clear coat over the past 30+ years. Very "Randy Rhoads" in its presentation, the guitar exhibits an area of moderate buckle rash across the bass side of the back and a handful of minor nicks on the body as a whole, largely relegated to the lower bout perimeter. The neck profile retains its smooth gloss.

A Gibson USA padded gigbag is included.
