Up for sale a 1992 Gibson Les Paul Standard in exceptional, 100% original condition, complete with its brown Gibson USA case. A very rare premium iteration of the Standard platform with factory gold hardware, this guitar boasts an absolutely jaw-dropping deeply figured carved three-piece AAA flame maple top with a depth and liveliness in the figuring rarely achieved on even the most prestigious Custom Shop models.
Weighing 9lbs on the dot, this Les Paul is remarkably lightweight given its tonewoods, and the solid (un-chambered) mahogany body has a certain sustain, punch, and fullness indicative of the Standard model's heritage. The 490R and 498T humbuckers have a wide tonal palette, with the Alnico II magnets in the neck pickup offering more chime and warmth, while the Alnico V bridge pickup has a cut and snarl that cuts through with classic Gibson sizzle and roar. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this Les Paul Standard is dialed in with 10-46 strings, low action, and spot-on intonation.
The neck has Gibson's '60s-style C-shaped profile carve at the nut, slender and fast-feeling with nicely rounded shoulders in every register and more heft as you travel up the fretboard, measuring .810" deep at the 1st fret and .980" at the 12th. On the bound rosewood fretboard, the original frets retain their full factory height and have plenty of meat, showing only a touch of wear on the crowns of frets 1-2 and virtually no wear further up the fretboard. The guitar plays cleanly in all registers, the neck is straight, and the truss rod is responsive and optimally adjusted. The nut has Gibson's traditional 1 11/16" width. The headstock retains the original "Standard" truss rod cover and features a set of original gold-plated bolt bushing Gibson Deluxe double line tuners which have vintage-spec keystone buttons.
All of the electronics work as they should, and the stock pickups have Gibson USA-embossed baseplates. The wiring harness is untouched, with original solder joints and CTS pots that date to the 35th week of 1992. The factory gold hardware shows only light surface patina, and all of the original plastic parts are present including the gold speed knobs, cream pickup rings, and switch surround.
The original nitro lacquer Trans Amber finish is rich and warm on the three-piece carved maple top, with a Walnut gloss on the mahogany, accented by cream binding on both the top and neck. The figuring on the carved maple top simply can't be overstated, with deep three-dimensional ripples and valleys of flame figuring extending liberally across every inch of the top. The top is extremely clean cosmetically, with just one shallow nick north of the bass-side tailpiece stud. Wear on the body is otherwise limited to a few microscopic nicks on the back body edge and a few minor scuffs at the treble-side waist (also on the back). The smooth nitro gloss is retained on the neck profile, free of palm wear and exhibiting just a couple small shallow marks on the bass-side shoulder of the carve behind frets 7-8.
The original brown tolex Gibson USA hardshell case is included.
