Up for sale, a 1992 Gibson Les Paul Custom Plus in 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with a hardshell case. From an increasingly heralded era of Gibson production known colloquially as the "good wood era," this Les Paul is a particularly rare iteration of the Custom platform with a AAA bookmatched and heavily figured carved flame maple top. Paired with a solid mahogany body, a one-piece mahogany neck and a genuine ebony fretboard, this Les Paul delivers a bold, muscly acoustic voice with great articulation and warmth. The original 490R and 498T humbuckers have a wide tonal palette, with Alnico II magnets in the neck pickup yielding more chime and warmth, while the Alnico V bridge pickup is tailored for gain with plenty of output and roar. Weighing 9lbs 8oz (on the lighter side for a Custom of this era), this Les Paul has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation. The one-piece mahogany neck has a slender ‘60s C-shaped profile carve with nicely rounded shoulders and more overall heft in the higher registers of the fretboard, measuring .805” deep at the 1st fret and .975" at the 12th. The ebony fretboard sports pearl block inlay and flawless original medium jumbo frets, playing cleanly up the 24 3/4" scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 1 11/16" in width, and the headstock has all the classic appointments of a Les Paul Custom, with multi-ply binding, split diamond pearl inlay, and "Custom" truss rod cover. The original gold metal button tuners turn smoothly and hold pitch well. There is also a small chip on the treble-side headstock edge through the binding. All of the electronics work as they should, with a pair of stock Gibson 490R and 498T humbuckers wired to a harness with untouched solder joints and CTS pots that date to the 9th week of '92. A "Feb 14th, 1992" stamp is present in the bridge pickup cavity, and the neck pickup cavity has an "HCSB" stamp, denoting the Heritage Cherry Sunburst finish. The hardware includes the Nashville bridge and stopbar, and the gold plating has plenty of shine, with very light surface patina on the bass side. All original plastics are accounted for, including a quartet of black speed knobs, pickup rings, and switch surround (this model had no pickguard installed from the factory to highlight the figuring on the top). The gloss nitro lacquer Heritage Cherry Sunburst finish frames the consistent, deep flame extending liberally across every inch of the top. Cosmetic wear includes some scattered small dings, predominantly on the lower bout on top and across the back, light pick scuffing on the treble side of the strum path, and some light finish scratches on the back as well. The smooth nitro gloss is retained on the neck profile as well, with a hint of palm wear behind fret 2 and just a few shallow marks on the profile length that don’t distract the palm while fretting. An SKB hardshell case is included.
