Up for sale, a 1992 Gibson "1960" Les Paul Classic in 100% original condition, stunningly clean and in perfect working order. A notably early Classic with the earliest features of the model including unaged inlays and "Les Paul Model" text on the headstock silkscreen, this Classic has a Bullion Gold gloss nitro lacquer finish. While most Goldtops simply have the maple cap finished in gold, this instrument features the gold nitro gloss extending to the body and neck.Designed to capture the finer points of the 1960 Les Paul Standard, the Classic boasts many features that are notable to the golden age of Les Paul production, such as a '50s headstock shape, thinner binding in the cutaway, push-in tuner bushings, ABR-1 bridge, and a slimmer 1960 neck profile. Weighing 9lbs 6oz with a solid (non-weight relieved) mahogany body and carved maple cap, this guitar has plenty of power, with healthy natural sustain which translates well through the pickups. The pickups in question are the original 496R and 500T humbuckers, and these pickups are among Gibson's highest output offerings, featuring ceramic magnets and delivering plenty of ripping cut and richness. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this guitar plays exactly as a good Les Paul should with low action, solid intonation, and fresh 10-46 strings. The one-piece mahogany neck has 1960 correct slim C shaped profile, extremely slender and fast-feeling, measuring .750" deep at the 1st fret and .875" at the 12th. The rosewood fretboard boasts cream binding, un-greened trapezoid inlays with some dimension in the pearloid, and original frets which retain their full factory height. The frets are flawless, and the guitar plays cleanly in all registers up the straight neck. The headstock sports the original "Classic" truss rod cover, pearl Gibson inlay, Les Paul Model silkscreen (before Gibson changed to the Les Paul Classic text to differentiate it from the Standards and Custom Shop reissues of the time), and a set of original Kluson-style Gibson Deluxe tuners which turn smoothly and hold pitch well. The serial number is inked with the larger font seen on the earliest Classic reissues. All of the electronics work as they should, with the 496R and 500T humbuckers cleanly wired to the stock harness with CTS pots which date to the 32nd week of '92. The nickel-plated hardware includes the patent number ABR-1 bridge and corresponding stopbar, and all of the original plastic is present including the amber bell knobs and cream pickguard with perfect"1960" gold text. A true time capsule piece, cosmetic wear on the Bullion Gold nitro lacquer gloss is virtually non-existent, and the only sign of wear is a few light pick scuffs across the guard.A near mint brown tolex "Gibson USA" hardshell case with pink interior is included.
