Up for sale, a 1992 Fender “Order Made” Stratocaster in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. Produced at the venerable Fujigen factory during the golden age of Fender Japan production, this exceedingly unique “Made in Japan” Strat was part of Fender Japan’s Order Made program, essentially a custom shop for non-catalog (and sometimes one-off) instruments. It was designed after Steve Lukather’s Red/Gold Schecter, as seen in the music video for Toto’s “Africa,” featuring a Transparent Red gloss finish, gold hardware, mirrored gold pickguard, a brass nut, and ceramic magnet single coils. With a 1954 Stratocaster as its jumping off point, tonewoods include an ash body and a one-piece maple neck with a V-shaped profile carve. This Strat has a resonant, authoritative natural acoustic quality with plenty of percussive clarity and midrange heft captured by the stock trio of Hotrod 7S single coil pickups. These pickups feature oversized poles and ceramic magnet construction (echoing Schecter's Monstertone pickups), offering plenty of sparkle and cut with more authority and punch than alnico versions, and plenty of quintessential Strat quack at the “in-between” positions on the five-way pickup selector switch. This Strat weighs 8lbs 13oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and spot-on intonation. The maple neck has a substantial soft V-shaped profile carve, measuring .875” deep at the 1st fret and .975” at the 12th. The fretboard has a 7 1/4“ radius, and the stock slender fretwire is flawless, playing cleanly up the 25 1/2“ scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The brass nut measures 1.650” (42mm) in width, ensuring ideal note attack and articulation. The headstock sports a round string tree, and the gold Kluson-style tuning machines turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch. The M-prefix serial and “Made in Japan” text are present above the four-bolt neck plate, and the neck heel and pocket retain their “Order Made” stamps.   All of the electronics function as intended; the pickups are wired to the stock harness with untouched solder joints and full-size pots that date to March, 1992. Controls include a five-way pickup selector switch and Master Volume and Tone knobs. The all-gold hardware includes the dome-topped knurled knobs, jack cup, and vintage-style vibrato with brass saddles. The plastics are also gold, including the switch tip and the mirrored pickguard, which exhibits some requisite scuffing along the treble side of the strum path. The gloss Transparent Red finish highlights the dynamic grain in the ash body, and this Stratocaster is remarkably well-kept, with cosmetic wear limited to just a scant few tiny nicks and finish scratches on the body as a whole. The smooth gloss finish on the neck profile is flawless. The original Fender-branded black tolex hardshell case with green plush interior is included, along with the user manual.
