Up for sale, a 1992 Fender Stratocaster ‘62 vintage reissue model ST62-53 in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original gigbag. This “Made in Japan” Strat was crafted at the venerable Fujigen factory during the golden age of Fender Japan production.Tonewoods include a basswood body, maple neck, and a thick slab rosewood fretboard. The original trio of ST-Vintage alnico magnet single coil pickups deliver a bevy of classic Strat tonalities; the bridge pickup has a sparkling cut, the neck has a bell-like fullness, and the in-between positions on the five-way selector switch offer scooped Strat quack. This Strat weighs 7lbs 13oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and spot-on intonation. The maple neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve with nicely rounded shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .830” deep at the 1st fret and .960” at the 12th. The slab rosewood fretboard has a vintage-spec 7 1/4“ radius, and the stock slender fretwire is in great shape, with a touch of wear on the crowns of frets 1-2, with wear extending beneath the plain strings until fret 5. This guitar plays cleanly up the 25 1/2“ scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The bone nut measures 1.650” (42mm) in width, and on the headstock, the Kluson-style tuners turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch. The “Made in Japan” text and L-prefix serial are present above the four-bolt “Fender”-embossed neck plate, and the neck heel is pencil dated 3-11-1992, with additional factory stamps on the heel. All of the electronics function as intended, with the pickups governed by a standard Strat Volume/Tone/Tone control configuration; the harness has been upgraded with modern USA-made 250k CTS pots and a paper-in-oil tone cap, and the original full-size Japanese pots (dating to ‘92) are present in the gigbag. Plastics include the original trio of knobs and three-ply white pickguard. The vibrato has a full-sized block, and the unit actuates smoothly, bouncing quickly back to pitch for surfy warbles and broader gestures. The chrome-plated jack cup and bridge base have plenty of shine, with a light dusting of patina on the “Fender”-stamped saddles.Cosmetic wear on the gloss Olympic White finish is limited to a smattering of small dings on the lower bout on top, an area of light buckle worming on the back central to the waist, and a handful of faint scratches in the clear coat on the body as a whole. The neck profile retains its smooth ambered gloss, with just a few minor marks on the profile length. The original Fender-branded gigbag is included, along with the original set of Japanese pots (untested).
