Up for sale, a 1992 Fender Custom Edition Stratocaster ‘62 vintage reissue model ST62-115WAL in near-mint condition and in perfect working order, complete with a Fender/G&G Deluxe hardshell case. This extremely rare, early Fender Japan Strat was produced under the Custom Edition banner, itself an extension of ExTrad branding, representing the pinnacle of Fujigen-era “Made in Japan” production. Not just Walnut-finished (as with more common Fender Japan Strats), this guitar’s body and neck are crafted from solid walnut, paired with a slab ebony fingerboard.
The walnut construction delivers a full, woody midrange and foundational warmth, with the added glassy articulation and detail of the ebony fingerboard. The electronics have been upgraded, with a pair of Fender’s Texas Special single coils at the neck and middle positions and an American Vintage 57/62 at the bridge. All three coils feature black fiber bobbins and cloth-covered leads, with staggered alnico pole pieces. The Texas Specials are slightly overwound for extra oomph and growl, and the American Vintage 57/62 at the bridge is sparkling and smooth with an accentuated upper midrange cut.
