Up for sale, a 1991 Gibson Les Paul Standard in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order with a vibrant Heritage Cherry Sunburst gloss nitro lacquer finish and the original Gibson USA hardshell case. With a carved two-piece maple top and solid, non-weight relieved mahogany body, the instrument has a big, balanced acoustic tone with sustain and punch to spare, weighing 9lbs 5oz. The 490R and 498T humbuckers are very early examples that still have patent number baseplates, and these pickups have a wide tonal palette, with Alnico II magnets in the neck pickup offering more chime and warmth, while the Alnico V bridge pickup has a snarl that cuts through with classic Gibson roar. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this Les Paul Standard is setup with 10-46 strings, low action, and solid intonation.
The neck has Gibson's '60s C profile carve, slender and fast-feeling at the nut with notable roundness and heft in the higher registers, measuring .815" deep at the 1st fret and .980" at the 12th. The original frets are intact, retaining their full factory height and plenty of meat, showing moderate wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-2, growing fainter until fret 6. The guitar plays cleanly in all registers, the neck is straight, and the truss rod is responsive and optimally adjusted. The nut has Gibson's traditional 1 11/16" width and the rosewood fretboard sports pearl trapezoid inlays. The headstock retains the original "Standard" truss rod cover and features a set of original bolt bushing Gibson Deluxe double line tuners which have vintage-spec keystone buttons which are notably more transparent than the heavily greened buttons seen on later models. There is a slight bend in the A tuner arm which does not affect functionality. The headstock face is particularly clean with a very well-executed Gibson pearloid inlay.
All of the electronics work as they should, with the stock pickups and clean patent number baseplates. The wiring harness is untouched, with original solder joints and CTS pots that date to the 48th week of 1990. The bridge pickup cavity is also stamped with a Jan 29, 1991 date, and the neck pickup cavity has a bold HCSB (Heritage Cherry Sunburst) stamp. The chrome hardware is positively gleaming, and all of the original plastic parts are present including the gold speed knobs, cream pickup rings, pickguard, and switch surround.
The original nitro lacquer Cherry Sunburst finish is rich and vibrant on the two-piece carved maple top, with a deep Cherry gloss on the mahogany back and sides, accented by cream binding on both the top and neck. Cosmetic wear on the top is very restrained, showing only light pick scuffing across the guard and a few pinhead-sized shallow nicks. Wear is otherwise limited to buckle rash at the bass-side waist on the back and a few additional finish scratches and ancillary marks across the back. The gloss finish on the neck profile is clean and smooth.
The original brown tolex Gibson USA hardshell case is included.
