Up for sale, a 1991 Gibson L-4 CES in near mint, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. While visually and dimensionally similar to the ES-175, the upscale L-4 CES offers all solid, carved tonewoods, with a spruce soundboard, mahogany back and sides, and a one-piece mahogany neck capped with a bound ebony fretboard. Perfect for players who want the elegance of an L-5 or Super 400, but eschew the larger archtop body size, the exceedingly comfortable 16" lower bout of the L-4 CES is an ideal choice. Smooth, full-sounding, and notably acoustically resonant, this L-4 CES is strung with fresh roundwound 11-49 strings, delivering an array of articulate and bold Jazz-worthy tonalities via the original pair of 490 humbuckers. Lightweight at only 7lbs, this Gibson archtop is dialed in to perfection here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with low action and spot-on intonation.

The one-piece mahogany neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve with just enough roundness in the shoulders, measuring .835" deep at the 1st fret and .955" at the 9th. The bound ebony fretboard features pearl split parallelogram fretboard inlays with flawless stock fretwire that retains its full factory height and perfectly rounded crowns. The scale length measures 24 3/4", and the nut is 1 11/16" in width. The headstock retains the original Gibson Deluxe double line tuners with lightly greened tulip buttons and flawless gold plating. On the back of the headstock, "Promotional" is stamped vertically, indicative of a guitar provided to an artist by Gibson and not intended for resale.

The guitar features a traditional Gibson control array, with individual Volume and Tone knobs for the 490R and 490T pickups, which have patent number embossed baseplates and the large baseplate screws only seen from 1990-91. Hardware includes the original ABR-1 bridge with ebony base and L-5-style tailpiece with carved ebony insert. The quartet of ambered bonnet knobs are intact, along with the multi-ply bound tortoise pickguard which shows some checking in the material adjacent to the pickups, yet is entirely stable. While the hardware has notably clean gold plating, there is localized wear from the pickguard off-gassing on the treble-side edge of the pickup covers.

The Vintage Sunburst gloss nitro lacquer finish is exceedingly clean, with just a few faint finish scratches on the body as a whole. The neck profile is flawless.

The original Gibson USA brown tolex hardshell case is included.
