Up for sale, a 1991 Fender Jazz Bass Fretless ‘62 vintage reissue model JB62-60FL in perfect working order. An early Fender Japan model, this “Made in Japan” Jazz Bass was produced at the much-revered Fujigen factory and displays the quality workmanship that has made these instruments so desirable amongst players and collectors alike. Made exclusively for the Japanese domestic market and rare outside its country of origin, this Jazz Bass features a basswood body, maple neck, and unlined thick slab rosewood fingerboard. The acoustic profile is smooth and even, with a strong midrange presence captured faithfully by the stock JB Vintage pickups, resulting in a rich, resonant tone with just a touch of growl (particularly at the neck) and lots of low-end depth. Weighing 8lbs 10oz, this Jazz Bass has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with fresh 45-100 flatwound strings, comfortable action, and spot-on intonation. The maple neck has a slender U-shaped profile carve at the nut, with moderate shoulder and more overall heft further up the fingerboard, measuring .815” at the nut and .980” at the octave. The unlined slab rosewood fingerboard has side dots for easy navigation and displays no wear on the rosewood. The bass adheres to traditional Fender spec with a full 34” scale length, 7 1/4” fingerboard radius, and 1 1/2” nut width, and plays comfortably up the fretboard with a straight neck and responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The headstock features a '62-style Fender Jazz Bass decal alongside chrome-plated tuning machines which have full-size baseplates and clover buttons, turning smoothly and holding accurate pitch. The “Made in Japan” text and J-prefix serial number are present above the Fender-embossed four-bolt neck plate. The neck heel is pencil dated 1-30-91. All of the electronics work as intended, with stock pickups and a fully upgraded wiring harness with USA-made 250k CTS pots and a Volume/Volume/Tone control configuration. The chrome hardware has plenty of shine, with the vintage-correct copper ground strip running between the bridge pickup cavity and the bridge. Plastics include the red tortoise pickguard and original trio of knobs, all in excellent condition. The gloss three-tone Sunburst finish shows prominent finish checking, with a number of dings and scratches across the body, particularly concentrated along the perimeter of the instrument and on the back lower bout edge. There is also a notable finish chip on the treble-side lower bout edge, and a spot of faint buckle rash between the belly carve and neck plate. The smooth gloss finish on the neck profile is immaculate. A gigbag is included.
