Up for sale, a 1991 Fender Custom Edition Order Made SSH Stratocaster in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. This exceedingly rare “Made in Japan” Strat was crafted at the venerable Fujigen factory during the golden age of Fender Japan production as part of Fender Japan’s Order Made program, which offered non-catalog features. Also falling under the short-lived Custom Edition banner (itself an extension of the ExTrad branding), this Stratocaster is one of the most utterly unique "Superstrats" we've ever encountered here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, featuring a two-piece solid flame maple body, a one-piece 22 fret flame maple neck, genuine Floyd Rose tremolo, and an HSS trio of USA-made Seymour Duncan pickups.

The solid flame maple construction yields a particularly bright, immediate acoustic response with great articulation and treble cut. The SH-4 JB in the bridge position is Seymour Duncan's original hot-rodded humbucker; the low end is full and powerful, the highs are crisp and detailed, and there’s an upper-midrange bump that adds crunch and chunk to heavy chords and translates to a singing, vocal-like quality for melodic playing. Additionally, this JB was wound by the “Queen of the SD Custom Shop,” Maricela Juarez, who has wound pickups for a myriad of artists including Eric Clapton, Billy Gibbons, George Harrison, and Slash. The Quarter Pound single coil pickups in the neck and middle positions have a fat, punchy tone with plenty of top end sparkle, featuring oversized 1/4“ Alnico V pole pieces for extra upper-midrange harmonic content, complementing each other (and the humbucker) well at positions 2 and 4 on the five-way pickup selector switch. This Strat weighs 9lbs 1oz benefits from a professional setup with fresh 10-46 strings, slinky action and accurate intonation.

The gloss custom color Trans Red finish highlights the broad tiger flame figuring in the two-piece maple body, which extends evenly across the top and back. Not a veneer, the figuring in the flame notably wraps around every body edge and contour. A well-kept example, cosmetic wear is limited to just a handful of faint finish scratches in the clear coat on the body as a whole. The smooth satin finish on the neck profile is flawless, also highly figured.

A modern Fender-branded padded gigbag is included.
