Up for sale, a 1991 Fender Stratocaster '62 vintage reissue model ST62, boasting a custom color Sherwood Green gloss finish and fully upgraded electronics with USA Fender components. This Stratocaster was made during the golden age of Fender Japan production at the Fujigen factory, part of the "Order Made" program which represented a sort of custom shop for Fender Japan with non-catalog finish and component options.Designed to pay homage to the golden era Pre-CBS Strat, this Stratocaster features Fender's 57/62 pickup set, the same single coils used in Fender's American Vintage line of instruments. These single coils boast black bobbins, staggered alnico magnets, and push-back cloth-covered leads, delivering plenty of sparkle, bounce, and spank. The bridge pickup provides smooth cut and bite, while the "in-between" positions on the five-way pickup selector switch have a snappy, thinned-out quack. The neck pickup is bold and round with a throaty zing that's harmonically rich and great for lead work. The guitar weighs 7lbs 9oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation. The maple neck has a modestly slender C-shaped profile carve at the nut, with a hair more shoulder and overall heft as you travel up the fretboard, measuring .830" deep at the 1st fret and .965" at the 12th. The extremely dark, tight-grained slab rosewood fretboard has a 7 1/4" vintage-spec radius, and the original slender frets are practically perfect save for a hint of wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-3. The guitar plays well up the 25 1/2" scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 1.650" in width (42mm), carved from bone for optimal note clarity and sustain. The headstock is fitted with Kluson-style Gotoh tuning machines that turn smoothly and hold pitch as they should. The "Made in Japan" text and J-prefix serial are present above the four-bolt neck plate, and the neck heel and pocket have matching Order Made stamps and numbers. The neck heel is pencil dated 2-7-91.All of the electronics work as intended, and the trio of Fender American Vintage 57/62 single coils are wired to a fully upgraded harness with USA-made CTS 250k pots, a Sprague Orange Drop tone cap, and five-way switch. The vibrato has a full-size block for optimal sustain, and the guitar has clean chrome plating on the bridge base, with uniform patina across the Fender-embossed bridge saddles. Plastics include the original white three-ply pickguard along with Fender USA cream pickup covers, knobs and switch tip.The Sherwood Green gloss finish is an exceedingly rare option on a Fujigen era "Made in Japan" Fender, and the feature of this instrument that elevated it to Order Made status. Cosmetic wear includes a small area of concentrated scuffing through the finish on the back bass-side lower bout, and just a few additional light finish scratches and minor marks on the body as a whole. The ambered gloss finish on the neck profile is flawless.A new Gator-branded gigbag is included.
