Up for sale, a 1990's Mosrite Ventures Model Super Custom '64 vintage reissue electric guitar in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original brown alligator hardshell case. An exceedingly rare model, this Mosrite replicates all the features of the early '64 Ventures Model, with three-ply binding on top, smooth pickup covers and knobs, neck plate with small screws (covering the actual neck bolts), first generation German Carve, large Ventures logo on the Sunburst-finished headstock, and of course the Vibramute vibrato tailpiece.
Crafted at the KuroKumo factory in Japan, just down the road from the famed FujiGen factory, this rare reissue model was made for a limited period, with the majority of examples only available to the domestic Japanese market. KuroKumo-made Mosrites are sought after for their masterful build quality and attention to detail, and this Super Custom '64 is simply a stunning instrument. The stock pair of single coil pickups are rich and sparkling, not as overwound as some, yet still providing some muscle and a bold, distinct sound in every pickup position. Chewy and snappy at the bridge and big and broad at the neck, these pickups offer an authoritative treble zing that's quintessential Mosrite. Weighing 7lbs 14oz, this Mosrite has been setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and spot-on intonation.
The maple neck has a slender C profile carve with moderate shoulder and a fast feel, measuring .835” deep at the 1st fret and .875” at the 12th. The bound rosewood fretboard features the original slender vintage-style frets which have their full factory height with flawless crowns and fret-edge binding. The guitar plays cleanly in every register with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. A faithful reissue in every respect, this Mosrite boasts a 24 3/4" scale and measures 1 9/16" wide at the zero fret just forward of the aluminum nut. The serial number is stamped into the rosewood on the last fret, another small detail echoing vintage Mosrite production. The headstock features the large Ventures Model text consistent with early '64 production, along with Kluson-style tuners which have a faithful '60s look and hold pitch well with unbridled vibrato use.
The body features the original single coil pickups with smooth covers, governed by Master Volume and Tone knobs. The '64 look is rounded out with a white three-ply pickguard, milled screw-on switch tip, and chrome-plated metal skirted "smooth" knobs. The Vibramute vibrato is extremely smooth and elegant, touch-sensitive in its responsiveness and made to exacting vintage spec with a sandcast base and chrome plated string anchor and arm. The instrument is extremely well-kept, with light patina on the Vibramute, light pick scuffing on the treble side of the strum path, and a few exceedingly faint scuffs on the back lower bout body edge. The Sunburst gloss on the neck profile is flawless.
The original brown alligator hardshell case is included with a form-fit interior and gold silkscreen "Mosrite" text on the exterior. Two of the three case latches are intact.
