1990s Mosrite Ventues Model Bass '65 Vintage Reissue Sunburst w/ Case, Japan Kurokumo

+ shipping

Up for sale, a 1990's Mosrite Ventures Model '65 vintage reissue bass in near mint condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. This extremely rare instrument was produced by Kurokumo, an official Mosrite licensee in Japan for a number of decades.

A short scale affair with a 30 1/2" scale length, this Mosrite is strung with 50-110 roundwound strings, and the basswood body (just like the original '60 Ventures Models) offers a smooth, even-sounding tonal platform for the pair of single coil pickups. Delivering growl and round punch, the pickups offer a distinctive tonal response and ideal thump. The bass weighs 8lbs 10oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with comfortable action and accurate intonation.

The maple neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve with moderate shoulder, measuring .810" deep at the 1st fret and .910" at the 12th. The bound rosewood fretboard features medium jumbo fretwire with fret edge binding, and the frets have plenty of meat and well-rounded crowns, showing just a touch of uniform wear beneath the strings on the crowns of frets 1-5. The bass plays easily in every register with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The fretboard width is 1 9/16" at the zero fret, just forward of the aluminum nut, and the headstock retains nickel-plated clover button tuning machines. And unlike later Japanese Mosrite iterations, this bass retains the "Ventures Model" text on the headstock face.

The electronics function as intended, with pickups which meter at 7.6k ohms,  governed by Master Volume and Tone controls with smooth knobs. The controls are mounted to a pale mint green pickguard, and hardware includes a four-saddle bridge (with chrome bridge cover included but not installed) and combination aluminum/rosewood stoptail. The three-tone Sunburst gloss finish highlights the deep contours of the German Carve body, and cosmetic wear is limited to light pick scuffing and a touch of faint reddish streaking on the pickguard, with a few tiny nicks on the bass-side lower bout on top, and a few additional faint finish scratches in the clear coat on the body as a whole. The gloss finish on the neck profile is flawless.

The original black tolex hardshell case is included and equally as mint as the guitar with gold silkscreen "Mosrite of California" text on the lid. The original hangtag is also present.
