Up for sale, a 1990's Mosrite Ventures Model '64 vintage reissue bass in new old stock condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. A truly flawless time-capsule piece, unplayed for the last 20-30 years with the thin protective plastic and "Made in Japan" sticker still on the pickguard, this stunningly rare instrument was produced by Kurokumo, the official Mosrite licensee in Japan in the '90s.
A short scale affair with a 30 1/2" scale length, this Mosrite is strung with 45-100 roundwound strings, and the basswood body (just like the original '60 Ventures Models) offers a smooth, even-sounding tonal platform for the hotly wound single coil pickup. Delivering growl and round punch, the pickup offers a distinctive tonal response and ideal thump by virtue of its position. The bass weighs 8lbs 13oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with comfortable action and accurate intonation.
The maple neck has a round medium C-shaped profile carve with full shoulders and ideal substance as you travel up the fretboard, measuring .865" deep at the 1st fret and .915" at the 12th. The bound rosewood fretboard features flawless slender fretwire with fret edge binding, and the bass plays easily in every register with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The fretboard width is 1 9/16" at the zero fret, just forward of the original aluminum nut, and the headstock retains the original clover button tuning machines with gleaming chrome plating. And unlike later Japanese Mosrite iterations, this bass retains the "Ventures Model" text on the headstock face.
The electronics function as intended, with a single neck position pickup which meters at 7.3k ohms and is governed by Master Volume and Tone controls with smooth knobs. The controls are mounted to a pale mint green pickguard, and hardware includes a four-saddle bridge (with chrome bridge cover) and combination aluminum/rosewood stoptail. The deep Ink Blue finish highlights the deep contours of the German Carve body, and there's barely a scratch on the instrument.
The original black tolex hardshell case is included and equally as mint as the guitar with gold silkscreen "Mosrite of California" text on the lid.
