Up for sale, a 1990’s Levinson Blade JM4 electric guitar in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. Blade instruments are the brainchild of Gary Levinson, crafted with exquisite fit and finish work in Japan, and this model is a modern take on the Jazzmaster platform with a versatile HSH pickup array. A very rare instrument, this Blade features a gloss Trans Purple finish on a solid ash body, maple neck with slab 22 fret ebony fingerboard, and passive Levinson pickups and electronics. The humbuckers are meaty and round-sounding, with the muscle and midrange authority of ash as a tonewood. A traditional three-way pickup selector toggles between the humbuckers, while a two-way mini toggle engages the middle position single coil, lowering the overall gain of the signal for a more polite, yet round and spanky sound with great percussive cut. This Blade JM4 weighs 8lbs 7oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, accurate intonation, and fast action. The maple neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve with modest shoulder and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .800” deep at the 1st fret and .855” at the 12th. The thick slab ebony fretboard features a modern 9.5” radius, mini dot inlay, and Levinson truss rod cover at the 22nd fret. The slender frets are flawless, and the guitar plays well in all registers up the straight neck with a responsive and optimally adjusted truss rod, made all the easier by the EZ-Access truss rod wheel at the heel. The scale length is 25 1/2", and the graphite nut measures 42mm (1.653") in width. The Strat-style headstock features the Blade logo and set of Sperzel locking tuners that turn smoothly and hold pitch as they should. On the body, the electronics function accordingly, with the HSH trio of Levinston pickups wired to Master Volume and Tone knobs recessed in the single-ply transparent acrylic pickguard. From a build standpoint this JM4 is different from the majority of Jazzmaster-style instruments in that the pickups are mounted with screws that extend through the body, and the body is routed from the back for all controls, highlighting the clean pickup cavities and premium workmanship via the transparent guard. The Falcon tremolo is a perfect bridge between vintage-style units and modern floating trems, featuring a double block system and roller saddles for unprecedented dive-bomb performance and sustain. The original gloss translucent Purple finish highlights the dynamic grain of the ash body, and cosmetic wear is limited to light scuffs in the pick path and a few shallow dings and light finish scratches on the body as a whole. The neck has a smooth satin finish with just a few minor marks on the profile.A padded gigbag is included.
