Up for sale, a 1990's Jerry Jones Neptune Shorthorn triple pickup electric guitar in 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. Handmade in the USA as a high quality alternative to the Danelectro catalog guitars of the 1950s and '60s, Jerry Jones instruments capture the fun and unique tonal character of a vintage Danelectro, with the reliability and expert build quality required by today's professional players. Arguably one of the most iconic designs in the Danelectro family, the Shorthorn double cutaway model with the "seal" pickguard was an essential tool of artists such as Jimmy Page and Syd Barrett, and this USA-made (and long ago discontinued) Jerry Jones model builds on the original design with more roadworthy hardware and construction methods, as well as a middle pickup. With a five-position blade switch and hum-canceling options when multiple pickups are engaged given the RWRP middle pickup, this Shorthorn is a particularly versatile and sweet-sounding model, with the chime and hollow twang associated with the original Lipstick single coil design. There's a real roundness and warmth to these pickups too, as well as a percussive clarity that keeps the sound focused and present in all pickup positions. Weighing only 6lbs 13oz, the semi-holllow poplar and masonite body construction makes for a surprisingly acoustically resonant and lightweight guitar. We've professionally setup this Jerry Jones here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with low action, accurate intonation and 10-46 strings. The maple neck has a slender, fast-feeling C-shaped profile carve with just enough roundness in the shoulders, faithful in depth and shape to ‘60s Danelectros, measuring .765" deep at the 1st fret and .845" at the 12th. The thick slab rosewood fretboard features a flat 14 1/2" radius, with nigh flawless original jumbo frets which have tons of meat and crown, showing virtually no wear. The nut measures a full 1 11/16" in width, and the scale length is 25", with easy access to the highest frets given the dual cutaway body design. The headstock has Danelectro's iconic "coke bottle" shape, with Kluson-style tuners manufactured by Gotoh which turn very smoothly and hold pitch as they should. The headstock face retains the Jerry Jones waterslide decal. All of the electronics work as they should, with a simple five-position blade pickup selector switch and Master Volume and Tone knobs. The thick white "seal" shaped pickguard is cut just like the Dano originals, and the machined bridge base has a compensated rosewood saddle, with the serial number etched on the treble edge of the bridge, a signifier of production between 1992-98. Cosmetic wear on the black gloss finish includes some finish scratches mostly relegated to the back, with a bit of additional finish chipping, also largely on the back. The neck profile retains its smooth gloss, with just a couple tiny marks and faint wear along the headstock edge. The original black tolex hardshell case with red plush interior is included.
