Up for sale, a 1990s Hofner Limited Edition 500/1 Cavern Violin Bass reissue in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with a hardshell case and the original CoA. An exceptionally clean example produced exclusively for Music Ground in the UK, this German-made Hofner is a faithful recreation of the original-spec 500/1, featuring a flat back, fully hollow construction, ‘61-centric “Cavern” pickup spacing, and period-accurate aesthetics.
Weighing just 4lbs 14oz, tonewoods include a spruce top, flame maple back and sides, flame maple/beech neck, and a dark rosewood fingerboard, yielding a distinctive acoustic thud and pluck with unparalleled natural resonance. The Beatle-esque sonic signature is cemented by a pair of Hofner Diamond pickups, delivering pillowy thump and a warm, woody upright bass-like tone that’s smooth and sweet-sounding. This Limited Edition 500/1 Cavern Violin Bass has been professionally set up here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 45-100 flatwound strings, easy-playing action, and accurate intonation.
Neck Specs:
- Neck: Flame maple, beech
- Shape: Medium C, measuring .835” at 1st fret, .985” at 12th fret
- Fretboard: Rosewood, pearl dot inlay
- Frets: Slender, no wear
- Scale Length: 30”
- Nut: 1.650” (42mm) + zero fret
- Tuners: Open-gear strip
- Serialization: Three-digit stamp on peghead (matches CoA)
Body Specs:
- Body: Spruce, flame maple
- Pickups: Hofner “Diamond” x2
- Controls: Volume x2, Pickup On/Off switch x2, Rhythm/Solo switch
- Hardware: Ebony bridge, trapeze tailpiece
- Plastics: One-ply white pearloid pickguard, teacup knobs, white pearloid cavity cover
The gloss Sunburst finish highlights the figuring in the flame maple back and rims, and this is a very clean example, with signs of use limited to some light oxidation of the hardware consistent with age, one minor ding near the neck heel on the bass-side perimeter, checking on the pearloid heel cap, and a few minor nicks and faint scratches on the rest of the body. There are some pinhead-sized nicks concentrated on the back of the peghead, and the gloss on the neck profile is smooth and clean.
A hardshell case and the serialized CoA are included.
