Up for sale, 1990s Chapman Stick in near-mint, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case and owner’s manual. Among the more unique fretted electric instruments ever developed, The Stick’s creator Emmett Chapman designed it for usage with his pioneering two-handed tapping technique. The resultant creation is effectively a bass and a guitar combined into one instrument, with the melody strings and bass strings each having their own individual pickup, and a stereo output enabling the two pickups to be processed/amplified independently.
This 10-string iteration of The Stick is crafted from a solid piece of Indian rosewood, weighing 7lbs 3oz. Tonally, the Chapman has an immediately recognizable sound, with a punchy crispness that is very much accentuated by the tapping-based playing style of the instrument. Both highly sensitive pickups are clear, dynamic, and articulate, capturing even the most subtle gestures and movements: the bass register is full and warm, with a brassy growl and rich thump, and the pickup for the melodic strings yields treble sweetness and immediacy, with the two pickups blending together well while playing bass and treble parts simultaneously. This Chapman Stick has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 105-12 (bass) and 22-7 (melodic) strings and accurate intonation.
