Up for sale, a 1990 Rickenbacker 4001V63 vintage reissue bass in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original silver hardshell case, polish cloth and all factory paperwork and hangtags. A discontinued model which has become increasingly scarce and sought after in recent years, the 4001V63 faithfully captures the look and feel of Rickenbacker's '60s 4001 model, featuring a Toaster Top neck pickup, Horseshoe bridge pickup, dot fretboard inlay, and elegant body contours without binding. The 4001V63 offers a truly distinct sound that's notably deeper and thicker than other 4001 (and 4003) models, and while the 4001V63 still has Rickenbacker's present midrange growl and note attack, the sound can also be thumpier. Particularly resonant acoustically and yielding ample sustain given the neck through body construction, this 4001V63 weighs 9lbs 14oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with roundwound 45-100 strings, comfortable action and spot-on intonation. The maple neck has a fast-feeling C-shaped profile carve with ideal substance and round shoulders, measuring .870” deep at the 1st fret and .885” at the 12th. The particularly thick slab rosewood fretboard has lightly rolled fretboard edges and original practically perfect slender frets which have their full factory height and well-rounded crowns. The bass plays effortlessly up the 33 1/4" scale with a straight neck, ideal relief and responsive truss rods. The nut measures 1 11/16" in width, upgraded to a hand-carved piece of bone. On the headstock, the bass retains the original tuning machines which turn smoothly and function as intended. The Rickenbacker-branded lucite truss rod cover is intact, and the V63 reissue benefits from having the appreciably longer vintage-spec headstock shape than later 4001 models. All of the electronics work as they should, and the Toaster Top and Horseshoe pickups complement each other well with individual Volume and Tone controls for each pickup coupled to a three-way pickup selector switch and single mono 1/4" output jack. Solder joints are untouched, and the CTS pots date to early '90. The chrome plating is bright and clean on the tailpiece, pickup bezel and toaster cover, with light patina on the “horseshoe” pickup cover. All original plastics are intact and notably well-kept. The serial number on the jack plate dates production to August, 1990.The Fireglo gloss finish exhibits just a few finish scratches across the back and light scuffing in the clear coat on the lower bout (also on the back). The neck profile retains its smooth goss save for a small area of shallow stand rash on the bass side of the carve behind fret 9.The original silver tolex vintage-style hardshell case is included and equally as well-kept as the bass, featuring black leather ends, functional latches, and a blue plush interior. The unopened Rickenbacker polish cloth and all hangtags and paperwork are also included. This bass was originally offered for sale new in Japan, thus the unusual Rickenbacker paperwork in Japanese.
