Up for sale, a 1990 Orville by Gibson Les Paul Custom 3 pickup Black Beauty model LPC-W/3PU in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with a molded hardshell case. Differentiated from the standard Orville-branded instruments, the “Orville by Gibson” guitars represented the highest tier of Japanese construction, outfitted from the factory with USA-made Gibson pickups. Made exclusively for the Japanese market and rare outside its country of origin, this Orville is an official Gibson-licensed guitar and the result of a partnership between Gibson USA and their Japanese distributor Yamano Gakki. Named after Gibson’s founder, Orville Gibson, this discontinued Orville model was crafted to exacting standards at the Terada factory.
The tonewood complement comprises a mahogany body with a carved maple top, a mahogany neck with a long tenon joint and a bound rosewood fretboard, yielding a natural acoustic response that's both rich and detailed, qualities faithfully captured by the 490R and 490T humbuckers. Based on the PAF platform, the 490 pickups are wax-potted for optimal feedback rejection and with accentuated upper midrange. The trebles have plenty of growl and cut, and lows are thick and punchy with plenty of sustain. This LPC-W/3PU weighs 9lbs 13oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and spot-on intonation.
