Up for sale, a 1990 Gibson SG Special in excellent condition, finished in Ferrari Red and complete with the original hardshell case and Gibson/Yamano owner’s manual. Loaded with a first-year pair of Gibson's 490R/T humbuckers, this SG Special hails from an increasingly highly regarded era of Gibson production, colloquially referred to as the “good wood” era, and this particular guitar was ordered by Gibson’s Japanese distributor Yamano. Gibson’s USA-made guitars distributed via Yamano are often considered to be among their best, featuring higher quality woods picked for Gibson’s discerning Japanese audience.

A unique example with a slab ebony fretboard, the mahogany body and neck offers foundational warmth and midrange bark, while the ebony ensures glassy treble cut. The pickups are a first-year pair of 490R/T humbuckers. Categorized by Gibson as a "Modern PAF", the 490R and 490T humbuckers are wax-potted for optimal feedback rejection and have an accentuated upper midrange punch. The trebles have plenty of growl and cut, and lows are thick and sweet. Featherweight at 6lbs 12oz, this SG Special benefits from a professional setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.
