Up for sale, a 1990 Gibson Les Paul Standard in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with a hardshell case. This Les Paul features a rare, limited edition TV Yellow gloss nitro lacquer finish (not to be confused with an aged Arctic White).
Weighing only 8lbs 15oz and hailing from what is increasingly known as Gibson's "good wood era," this Les Paul delivers a lively, powerful acoustic voice that translates well through the humbuckers with the traditional tonewood complement of a carved, bookmatched two-piece maple top, mahogany body, and one-piece mahogany neck. The 490R and 498T humbuckers have a wide tonal palette, with the Alnico II magnets in the neck pickup offering more chime and warmth, while the Alnico V bridge pickup has a cut and snarl that cuts through with classic Gibson roar. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this Les Paul Standard has low action, spot-on intonation, and fresh 10-46 strings.
The one-piece mahogany neck has a slender ‘60s-style C-shaped profile carve with round shoulders and a fast feel, measuring .795" deep at the 1st fret and .970" at the 12th. On the bound rosewood fretboard, the original medium jumbo fretwire retains its full factory height, exhibiting moderate wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-3, and fainter wear on the crowns extending to fret 7. The guitar plays cleanly in all registers, the neck is straight, and the truss rod is responsive and optimally adjusted. The nut has Gibson's full 1 11/16" width. The headstock retains the "Standard" truss rod cover and bolt bushing Gibson Deluxe double line tuners which have vintage-spec greened keystone buttons.
All of the electronics work as they should, with stock pickups and clean "Gibson USA" stamps on the baseplates. The wiring harness is untouched, with original solder joints and CTS pots that date to '90. The control cavity also exhibits aftermarket shielding paint to ensure the lowest possible noise floor. The chrome hardware is bright and clean on the Nashville bridge, stopbar tailpiece, and pickup covers. All of the original plastic parts are present including the amber speed knobs, aged cream pickguard, and switch surround. The original pickup rings are included in the case, currently substituted for a different pair, as the stock rings each have a (very common) split in the plastic.
The limited edition gloss nitro lacquer TV Yellow finish exhibits faint vertical checking on top, wth additional light checking at the fret nibs and on the edges of the upper bout body binding. There is light buckle wear at the waist, and some small nicks and light finish scratches on the body as a whole consistent with careful use. The gloss is extremely smooth on the neck profile, with one small nick on the treble-side shoulder behind fret 9.
A modern black tolex "Gibson Gear" hardshell case is included.
