Up for sale, a 1990 Gibson Hummingbird in exceptional condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case and paperwork. In many ways the Hummingbird was Gibson's answer to Martin's D-18, yet this dreadnought offers a tone that is distinctly Gibson, featuring a solid Sitka spruce top and mahogany back and sides. Warm, punchy and powerful, this Hummingbird has tons of projection and kick in the bass register. The midrange yields a smooth growl and sweetness, and the trebles are round and sparkling. This guitar weighs 4lbs 4oz, benefitting from a professional setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 12-53 bronze strings and comfortable action. The mahogany neck has a slender V-shaped profile carve, with a subtle increase in additional heft in the upper registers, measuring .830” deep at the 1st fret and .970” at the 9th. The rosewood fretboard is a notably dark cut with pearl split parallelogram inlay and fret-edge binding on the medium jumbo fretwire. The frets benefit from a level and crown, exhibiting no wear with plenty of meat left. This guitar plays cleanly up the 24 3/4“ scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The original nut measures 1.725". On the headstock, the Gibson Deluxe tuning machines turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch, with greened keystone buttons. On the body, the rosewood bridge sits flush with the top on all edges, and the saddle has been upgraded to a carved piece of bone. The stock tortoise pickguard has the traditional hummingbird and flowers motif etched into the material that gives this model its name, and a bit of the silkscreening has partially worn away along the strum path. The gloss Cherry Sunburst nitro lacquer finish is bright and vibrant, highlighting some subtle curly figuring on the bookmatched mahogany back. Crack-free and well-kept, cosmetic wear on this guitar is limited to a scant few tiny dings on the lower bout on top, and a handful of faint scratches in the clear coat on the body as a whole. The neck profile retains its smooth gloss, with light checking on the binding at the fret tangs. The original Gibson USA-branded brown tolex hardshell case with pink plush interior is included, along with some factory paperwork.
